AMRITSAR : Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has petitioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce changing the name of Aurangzeb road in Delhi after Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib's ame as a tribute to him on his martyrdom anniversary, being observed on November 24th . While talking to TOI on Saturday, DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK said that he has intimated the aspirations of the Sikh community to PM Modi."

Sikh's from across the globe want road to be named after the ninth Guru which would also be a befitting tribute to him,as he chose to lay his life for the cause of humanity". Guru Tegh Bahadur was martyred in Chandni Chowk area of Delhi on the orders of the then Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in the month of November, 1675.

"We have also demanded that Guru Teg Bahadur's martyrdom day be declared a gazetted holiday across the country, so that message of universal brotherhood given by Guru reaches every corner of the country" said Manjit. He also expressed hope that with BJP in center, the aspirations of Sikh community would be fulfilled. He informed that a petition was also being signed online for renaming the road after Guru Teg Bahadur's name.

Stating that DSGMC has written a letter to Modi detailing the supreme sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur which binds the society of present day India. "Guru Teg Bahadur is a symbol of communal harmony, he doesn't represent one religion but he is a symbol of universal peacehood, and declaring his martyrdom day as a gazetted holiday is everyone's demand so that this day be celebrated as representative of peace and harmony," demanded DSGMC general secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa. He added that Mughal ruler Aurangzeb was a cruel to Hindu's, Sikh's and Muslims as well. "So a public place named after Aurangzeb in secular India is inappropriate," said Sirsa.

Rightful claim.

India owes more to Guru Teg Bahadur rather than aurangzed, Babur or any other mughal emperor.

Aurangzeb was a skunk.

I would even be comfortable if it was named after Arvind Kejriwal.

He at least joined Anna to shake up Indian conscience.

And if one wants to be 'secular', name it after Ilmi lady.

It is ridiculous that there are streets named after Aurangzeb in India. It should be legally banned.
