Ok I googled...it says there is a paragraph where God says " "The fourfold varnas are made by Me in accordance with habits and deeds. Though I am the Creator of varnas, I am above them"". Is this the para you were talking about? Or have I missed anything?
purushsukta has been used by brahmins to justify caste system but it does not...
what it actually says??
The said Purush Sukta is in 31st Chapter of Yajurved, apart from Rigved and Atharvaved with some variations. In Yajurved it is 31.11. To see what it actually means, let us look at the previous mantra 31.10.
It asks a question – Who is mouth? Who is hand? Who is thigh and who is leg?
The next mantra gives the answer – Brahmin is mouth. Kshatriya is hand. Vaishya is thigh and Shudra becomes the legs.
Note that the mantra does not say that Brahmin “takes birth” from mouth…It says Brahmin “is” mouth. Because if the mantra would mean “takes birth” it would not answer the question in previous mantra “Who is mouth?”
The purushauskta is a ----ing hymn from the Rig Veda it itself is good enoughand even contemporary buddhist literature such as the asalaya sutta documents the aspects of the caste system well.
You posted the Hymn and you are saying you never heard of a Hymn that endorses the caste system. This is funny
have you even read what i have posted??
the hymna 10:31 taken out of context might sound castist but it is not as you can not ignore hymna 10:30 which is in fact asking questions...no where it is said in vedas that brahmins take birth from god's mouth and others from other body parts because vedas consider god to be formless...
i am still waiting for other hymnas you think are castist..
Screw it taking into context means comparing the situation on the ground with what was stated in the literature..The rig veda mentions a lot about a pantheon of gods and you are saying god is formless
people like you read english translations by half learned western scholars...vedas do not have any deities but puranas have deities...different names of god like vishnu, shiva, agni, indra where later used by brahmins to create puranas...
in 31:10 it is asked that who is mouth? who is hand? who is thigh and who is leg? (no where it is related to god's body)
in 31:11 these questions are answered....Brahmin is mouth. Kshatriya is hand. Vaishya is thigh and Shudra becomes the legs.
In society, Brahmins or intellectuals form the brain or head or mouth that think and speak. Kshatriya or defense personnel form the hands that protect. Vaishya or producers and businessmen form the thigh that support and nurture (note that thigh bone or femur produces blood and is strongest bone). In Atharvaveda, instead of Uru or Thigh, the word “Madhya” is used meaning that it denotes also the stomach and central part of body.
Shudra or Labor force form the legs that lay the foundation and make the body run.
But I think that MadIndian and Iamanidiot have valid concerns. The versus you describe are clearly segregating society into classes/castes. Plus there is no mention of the casteless/outcastes. Although I take your point, that there is no mention of entitlement to a caste by virtue of birth.
Are there any other references to caste in the Rig Veda? plus any estimates of when these ideas were formulated?
Brahmins and higher caste subverted the religion and culture made by an OBC for their own nefarious ends. While raping, pillaging, plundering, slavery and not to mention murder. If they are poor today is because of 2000 years of inhuman sufferage, in 60 years they have made so much, In another 60 years, they will eliminate the scourge that is the Brahmin ideology. Brahmins and the higher caste sold this country over many times over and more. If anything it is the Brahmins who went out of the country licking the western boots, the same thing they did to the British here. So the family traditions continue. The lower caste is still in this country toiling very hard to make it right after centuries of abuse. Brahmins have never shoved the scriptures on my people throats, really? So the caste system is created by 'auragazeb' then, the usual brahmin, they should be ashamed of themselves for being born into the ancestory of literally inhuman despots. Idiotism galore in the post above. Denial at its best.
