Hinduism is not a religion - it is a culture, a way of life. When someone says they are Hindu, what they are really saying is that they are one of the Vedanta - i.e. one who follows what we call the scriptures that govern the spiritual facts in existence. Note I said facts, not laws; Hindus do not blindly follow scriptures as accepted laws as the Abrahamical faiths do, in fact, the highest a Hindu can achieve is to attain realization with self, i.e. with one's soul, as it is accepted that through realisation of one's soul can one find god - the supreme life force. This is a sharp contrast to the strict, and absolute doctrine of abrahamical faiths.
Compared to Hinduism, such faiths appear little more than glorified cults, worshiping a leadership of elites.
Furthermore, "Whosoever comes to Me, through whatsoever form, I reach him; all men are struggling through paths which in the end lead to Me." And again: "I am in every religion as the thread through a string of pearls. Wherever thou seest extraordinary holiness and extraordinary power raising and purifying humanity, know thou that I am there".
The essence of Hinduism lies in the acceptance of all!
If even they had to, they would not ask when they aren't even one third of the total population. By gradual increase if someday they do reach 50% or more, they might ask for it. If/When it does occur, would it be easy to stop them? Really? When they give goose bumps to the government even today? Did you think it will happen overnight if it were to?
My point is not to blame them or their nature but to state that for now it isn't tactically feasible as well even if they wanted to do so.
I hope they never ask for Caliphate or any other kind of pure islamic state and I hope the hindus never ask for Hindu state.
Lets stay the way we are and speak loudly against appeasing/oppressive policies towards any of the communities, majority or minority.
Such a shame for me that I cannot reply back your statement supporting governor the spiritual facts in existence.
Such a shame that I cannot defend other religion, being from a born and brought up from a Hindu family myself with least knowledge about other religions theory of existence and spirituality.
Such a shame that I never give preference to religion above things which are practical in life and not spiritual.
Some where I have heard that in ancient times the Afghan use to call the people of this sub-continent as Hindus, relating to the people of the Hindukush range and thus we came to be known as Hindu...maybe you are right Hindu is no religion.
but on the other hand are you replying to the point I made that some people thinks his religion to be the best cause he is born and taught to believe in it?
I dont remember pointing to any particular religion??
I believe the question is wrong as it is modern evolving world. Are Indians getting a fair deal in India? Among Indians most of them are poor or middle class, in this context and most of them are not getting fair deal. The people of India who are not getting fair deal among them muslims(minority), hindus, christians etc are there. But what the point segregating a group(muslims here) from rest of them and trying to demonize India ...might work for propaganda but truth prevails most of the Indians are poor and they are struggling day to day battle to improve there livelyhood. so piss off interviewer... and I strongly agree muslims to be uplifted much more then remaining (hindus and cristians) just to shut the mouths of propagandists but is it fair to leave remaining in the dark as they are. so pls stop playing victims ,all of us are victims here. carry out ur daily struggle for existence one day we will reach or future generations will achieve what we want to be. pehaley it is(kuch nahi badala India) but now it is (kuch badala , India shines).
They are getting fairer deal here than Hindus themselves, on the other hand Hindu voices are suppressed in the name of Secularism, for which one day in the future Hindus will again pay a high prize as they have paid in the past. The question appears to me like this :-
Do Muslims deserve a fair deal in India after such a long and bloodiest history of Hindu Genocide by them?
They should realize that they are as Indian as anybody and stop living in a world of self-Isolation. Other communities live in mixed areas with no trouble but there is a trend of ghettoization among the Muslim community as I observed from areas inside Delhi, to areas in Assam and other areas in India and abroad.
It is purely in the hands of Muslim community to stop seeing themselves as the victims deserving something better and start joining the mainstream society as a part of it rather than considering something different. Co-existence is possible only when certain points of oneself are pressed and kept to oneself.
I have been to Mumbai where Jews, Parsis and mainstream Hindus live like normal people none of these communities raise an issue. Not one issue. None of them keep pointing they are getting less and getting isolated and neglected despite being negligible in terms of population percentage.
Thus it is only in the hands of Muslim community to integrate with the Indian identity as these Zoroastrians and Jews of outside of India like them (at one time) have beautifully mingled.
All I am trying to say is that those who do not understand Hinduism (cough cough BBC) should not be quick to judge us (i.e. mainstream Hindus) as dividing, and then discriminating, the country's populace based on religious lines. Such international media quite stupidly believe Hinduism is all about swimming in the Ganga and us worshipping a plethora of gods with weird rituals - the quintissential paganism - whereas in reality, nothing that could be further from the truth. I simply said that from a religious perspective, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism are far more inherently divisive.
There is significant discrimination against numerous groups against India - I do not disagree with that. However, to suggest that the main Hindu body is fundamentally discriminatory against Muslims is frankly ludicrous, and as I said, anti-Hindu in nature.
Compare this to the doctrine that only those baptised will be saved in the second coming, only jews will be saved, only muslims can reach heaven...
Opportunity knocks on the doors of everyone. It's the one who opens the door and let's it in that succeeds.
Now I cannot speak of the entire Muslim community of India because I belong to a minority sect of muslims itself, all I can say is we never had any problems. I might say that after Parsis and Agarwals, we might have the highest per capita for a community. Reason for this is emphasis on education including females which has resulted in a 100% literacy in our community and then utilizing that to do some form if business or the other.
My father came to bangalore with nothing. He tried his best and I can say he has lived a reasonably happy life economically after the initial stress. I will also say that my community strictly tries to follow the sharia as in daily life to pray etc but not in the form as some others try to impose out of wrong interpretation. We bother about our business and don't interfere with others. This is where the Muslim community at large has faltered. Lack of education to all especially the females has hampered them.
Again much as the Muslims present a front of being homogeneous lot, they are not. There are a lot of differences between Muslims of different regions. I have seen the difference in work ethics too which is a problem.
I will also say that because of Aholes who call themselves leaders of the Muslims in India have got sucked into politics which has not helped. Playing the victim card has come from those people and those politicians who keep playing "secular" politics which keeps muslims backward while keeping them on the boil as well.
Effin politics has screwed a lot of things in the country.
