So posession is a crime?
My impression was that possession is a crime but its implementation is lax obvioulsy.

The key point is "viewing" is not a crime, but posesssion IS a crime.

So Yusuf's cousin "possessing" obscene content was a chargable offence so to speak

"Sale, etc., of obscene books, etc.-[(1)] For the purposes of sub-section, book, pamphlet, paper, writing, drawing, painting, representation, figure or any other object, shall be deemed to be obscene, if it is lascivious or appeals to the prurient interest or if its effect, or (where it comprises two or more distinct items) the effects of any one of its items, is, if taken as a whole, such as to tend to deprave and corrupt persons who are likely , having regard to all relevant circumstances, to read, see or hear the matter contained or embodied in it.]

(2) Whoever- sells , lets to hire ,distributes, publicly exhibits or in any manner puts into circulation or for purposes of sale, hire, distribution public exhibition of circulation, makes produces, or has in

(a) Possession any obscene book, pamphlet, paper, drawing painting, representation or figure or any other obscene objects whatsoever, or

(b) Imports, exports or conveys any obscene objects for any of the purposes, aforesaid, on knowing or having reason to believe that such objects will be sold let to hire, distributed or publicly exhibited or in any manner put into circulation or

(c) takes part in or receives profit from any business in the course of which he knows or has reasons to believe that such an object are for any of the purposes aforesaid, made produced, purchased , kept, imported, exported, convey, publicly excited, or in any manner put into circulation, or

(d) advertises or makes known by any means whatsoever that any person is engaged or is ready to engage in any act which is an offense under this section, or that any such obscene object can be procured from or through any person, or

(e) Offers or attempts to do any act which is an offense under this section, shall be punished [on first conviction with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, and with fine which may extend to two thousand rupees, and, in the event of a second or subsequent conviction, with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to five years, and also with fine which may extend to five thousand rupees.]"

from the complete reading of this section it appears that stress is on selling or any activity for circulation or public viewing is chargeable under provision of this section.

Everyone wants to make fun of others folly. It's the season. The BJP will keep ongoing such comments as it does not mind takin a dig at others (read congress) for all the ills in it. At the end of the day they are all humans and worse politicisns and sub ek hi thali ke chatte batte.

That would be a very simplistic way of looking at something that is not so simple. There are many dimensions to look at, and in the case of organization it is always the quality of central leadership that should be taken into account first.

For the part where someone have all those things on their hard drive, or any gadget they own, it is perfectly fine if they view them inside their home. They try and sell them, and that is illegal.

I just saw this in the news. This is both hilarious and sad. I personally don't give a hoot about anyone watching pornography (provided it doesn't involve children or non consenting adults). What does get to me is the fact that they were doing this in the assembly. This is yet another glaring reminder that the Indian political system is still bogged down by politicians who clearly do not take their jobs seriously and are hence entirely unqualified and inept to be entrusted with something as important as political representation of constituents.
