Good for Pakistan. Hopefully this would benefit the locals directly rather than only the Paki elites.

Gwadar has been offered to china for a long time but Chinese have been hesitant .
Many times it has been abandoned. This has been ongoing for more than a decade.
If Chinese seriously get involved it may have USA put more focus on Baluchistan.
This could backfire for Pakistan in a bad way. I always wondered why China does not develop
Karachi further?

Sir, China only took control of Gwadar Port Authority from Singapore last year and proposed a $32 billion energy corridor linking Gwadar to Xinjiang province. A project of such magnitude takes years of intensive planning. PN and Pak Railways have already cleared 5.000 acres of land for the chinese, something they refused to do for Singapore. The original route has been redesigned and runs through Islamabad via lAhore and Karachi to Gwadar bypassing Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa and Northern/Central Balochistan. KKH expansion is almost completed allowing heavier transport than before to pass through.

Gwadar Port Trust was once given to Singapore in 2007 under US pressure but the war in Afghanistan is nearing an end as the gap between Islamabad and Washington is further widening. She can't do much to delay Gwadar.

Karachi is too congested with its two international sea ports at Keamari and Qasim and the plans to develop Gwadar are not new, it has been in the pipeline for more than four decades already. Next to Gwadar, there are plans to expand or build new ports at Sonmiani, Gaddani, Pasni, Ormara and Jivani as well

what about what the Iran republic says to PRC.

Are the interests of Pakistan > Iran and also Pakistan trade interests Pakistan > India + Iran. What about Afghanistan.

The above seems to be a military development of PRC into Pakistan not economic (like they do in North Korea). PRC will look at their own interests first and primary and not Pakistan. The PRC designers and interlocutors are too pragmatic to put everything into Pakistan like it is being pronounced and declared.

China asks Pakistan to submit details of all development projects

ISLAMABAD: Secretary of the Ministry of Planning, Development and Reforms, Hassan Nawaz Tarar on Monday said that China has asked the Government of Pakistan to submit details of all the development projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Support Project.

This was told by the secretary in a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Planning, Development and Reform which met under the Chairmanship of MNA Abdul Majeed Khan Khanan Khail.

The session was attended by its members and officials of the ministry.

The secretary told committee members that the National Development and Reforms Commission of China (NDRC) has decided to start work on the development projects as soon as possible.

He said that the purpose of the MoU between China and Pakistan, regarding the China-Pakistan economic corridor, was to increase trade links between the two countries through a network of rail, fiber, optic cables and energy pipelines.

"Pakistan is interested in enhancing foreign investment in the country.

"The government also wants to overcome the current energy crisis, while the Chinese government requires access to Gwadar port," said the secretary.

Tarar also said that the federal government will not borrow loans from China on behalf of the provinces.

"It will be the responsibility of the provinces to get loans from China for their development projects," he said.

"The government will not take a loan from China for the power projects," the secretary said.

Tarar also informed the committee that the ministry also forwarded a summary regarding the census to the CCI for approval.

He said that it has been pending for the past year due to the concerns of Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Malik Baloch.

With that sort of high-tech industry in the offing, just the spillover effect into other industries/services justifies the immense fixed cost of this project to the always looking to invest, tallel, failel Chinese. Why, I say the Chinese brothers must not stop there, they must also establish a high-tech international airport at Gwadar, after all, p'astaan's economy is more vibrant than any other economy and the perfect place to start startups. Why stop at throwing good renminbi after great renminbi, when you can throw great renminbi after great renminbi!

China must realize that if not them, some one else may seize this great once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity. It is only because of the big-heart of Pakistanis that they have offered it to their chinese brothers first, I should know, I am a salesman of the finest China and Pa'astan myself, and I know a good deal when I see one.
