Also, I read the news where Pakistan is planing to install two nuclear reactors near Karachi. The reactors are to be supplied by China (obviously). But the shocking thing is that, these kind of reactors are using brand new technology and are still under tests. So basically, Karachi and its 20 million people are subjects to this test of reactors. How can the government allow such a choice of location?

teer kamaan se nikal chuka ha(arrow has left the bow) too late for pray

Yea aap ki khwaish zarror hey but it's far from reality, learn to distinguish between, terrorism, ethnic, sectarian and gang fare violence like you had in Delhi some years back. No doubt there are incidents of terrorism happening in that city but majority of killings is due to gang war.
It's another thing the Taliban scum lay claim to every incident and you people are only too willing to believe them.!!

KARACHI: At least 67 suspects, including foreigners, were arrested by the police during a targeted operation in different areas of Karachi in the early hours of Friday morning, DawnNews reported.

Following the killings of five people in Karachi's Orangi Town on Thursday, police carried out raids in the area and arrested 30 suspects, including foreigners.

Meanwhile, 28 suspects were arrested during an operation in the city's Sharafi Goth area. Furthermore, weapons and drugs were also recovered from the arrested suspects.

Moreover, five suspects were arrested by the police after raids in Karachi's Clifton and Azizabad areas whereas weapons and drugs were seized.

Police arrested alleged target killer, extortionist and gang-war suspect Amir arf Marchi from the city's Malir area. He belonged to the Wasiullah Lakho group.

Earlier, security personnel carried out raids in Musharraf Colony, Mauripur and seized a car full of explosives while also arresting three suspects. One of the suspects was reportedly involved in the Abbas Town bombing.

Karachi, the largest metropolitan city of Pakistan, is riddled with targeted killings, gang wars, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism.

Targeted operations led by Rangers' forces with the support of police are ongoing in the city under a directive issued by the federal government against criminals already identified by federal, military and civilian agencies.

It depends where you are in Pakistan. Generally Talees are not popular in urban areas and most people would love to see them get eliminated. Religious parties have never done well in electionz, never secured more than 10% except for KPK.

Urbans don't believe in coexistance with Talibs and majority links them with millions of Afghan refugees and to be honest we want to get rid of them both. No peace negotiation, eliminate them from grass roots which lie in Afganistan.

Rural areas, specially the underdevelopped western provinces have more faith in Taliban than our corrupt government which has never done much to develop these areas.

U.K. Arrests MQM Leader Altaf Hussain, Sparking Fears of Unrest in Pakistan
Pakistan's largest city braced for violence on Tuesday after British police arrested the "don of Karachi" Altaf Hussain, who has lived in the U.K. in self-imposed exile for decades.

Hussain is one of Pakistan's most powerful men and the controversial leader of the powerful Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), the country's fourth-largest political party.

A spokesman for the party told Reuters that Hussain - who runs MQM from the U.K. - was arrested in London on Tuesday.

British police said that a 60-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of money-laundering during a raid on a house in northwest London but declined to confirm his name.

The leader of millions of Urdu-speaking immigrants descended from those who crossed into Pakistan from India after the British partitioned the region in 1947, Hussain is a dominant force in Karachi, a teeming city of some 18 million and one of the largest political constituencies of the world.

While supporters praise him as a business-oriented leader of the middle class, opponents say he is a tyrant and accuse him of murder and violence.

Faisal Sabzwari, an MQM parliamentary leader and a serving minister in the government of the Sindh province, said last week he feared the consequences of a Hussain arrest.

"If the Boss is arrested, expect chaos in Karachi. Only MQM can control this town. No one else," he said, using the moniker most party members use to refer to Hussain.

Soon after news broke of Hussain's arrest, shop-keepers and market stall owners rushed to close their businesses for fear of violence, residents told Reuters.

"We deployed extra security at the British High Commission in the southern part of Karachi as soon we learnt about Altaf Hussain's arrest in London through media," Deputy Inspector General Abdul Khalique Shaikh told Reuters.

"We have increased police patrolling and we are making further deployments at sensitive spots in the city," he added.

Hussain was a student-leader who rose to power in the 1980s and later founded the MQM. He has lived in the U.K. since 1992 and is now a British citizen.

Moreover, two alleged members of a banned group were also taken into custody here by law enforcement personnel. Unidentified men snatched the double cabin vehicle of the UN from Karachi's Ayesha Manzil area. Viewing the snatching as an alarming development, law enforcement agencies (LEAs) boosted security across the city. Meanwhile, Rangers claimed to have arrested two alleged members of a banned outfit. The arrests were made during a raid carried out in Mujahid Colony in Karachi's Liaquatabad Town. Separately, four people, including a woman and a child, were injured in Lyari Town's Chakiwara area. Another two other people were injured in a hand grenade attack in Lyari's Cheel Chowk. Strange, after the GEO TV fiasco and the Karachi Airport incident, both Dawn and Express Tribune seem to have relegated these daily occurring target killings to the back pages.
