Remembering the Medivial India's Napolean - Hemu (1501-1556)

He was Called India's own napolean for nothing or Napolean was France's very Own Hemu. Take your Pick



Anyone who had thrown off Mughals in their Reign must be Great. He almost kicked Mughals out of India. He won 22 Undefeated Battles and the only battle in which he lost was the Battle in which he died. At his best he sent shivers down the spine of the Mughal generals who ran off as soon as they heard he is coming to attack.

Akbar had almost made Plans to Quit India under Hemu's reign. He stood around 16 Miles behind their attacking Army to face Hemu because he had made plans to run out of India If Hemu had become Victorious. But as luck had it, Hemu suffered an unfortunate Blow to his eyes in his last battle and he became unconcious and the Indian Army without their Master were sadly defeated.

Some of his best achievements include gaining the confidence of Afghan Generals who fought for him against the Mughals.

Harold appears to have died late in the battle, although accounts in the various sources are contradictory. William of Poitiers only mentions his death, without giving any details on how it occurred. The [Bayeux] Tapestry is not helpful, as it shows a figure holding an arrow sticking out of his eye next to a falling fighter being hit with a sword. Over both figures is a statement "Here King Harold has been killed".

Nope that would be Prithviraj Chauhan of Ajmer and Delhi imo.How he died is of course unknown but in all other respects he was like Harold of England.

Adil shah suri himself was a useless and drunken man but his general hemu was very capable and intelligent man. He had taken control of the adil shah's army and was in the position to claim delhi throne if humayun had not invaded. But he never declared himself king as bulk of the soldiers in his army were afghans who were fighting for cause of adil shah suri.

Its the claim of modren indian nationalists that hemu was a king, it never happened in the history. He might had ambitions for that, but he died fighting as general of adil shah suri rather than independent ruler.

If you want the truth to be hammered into you, so be it.
Hemu acquired the throne of Delhi on Oct 06th and died in battle on Nov 05th. That one month right after coming in, between the two last battles of his life, is neither a period nor the circumstance where one can get so many coins minted. Those affairs are looked into once you've stabilized your hold and governance.
That being said, it is not only the nationalist historians who're saying that Hemu was an independent King after winning Delhi and had his coins struck.
How about Frederick Augustus, Michael Edwardes, Vincent Smith, Sir Woleley Haig and above all Dr. Ishtiaq Hussain Qureshi a pakistani historian. Majority of these gentlemen wrote in 19th and early 20th century.
By the time Hemu reached Delhi, he had won 22 consecutive battles without a single defeat and had always been very liberal in distributing war booty among his soldiers, regardless of their background.
His battle record and his generous hand are the two main reasons why his mixed origin army supported him when he (a Hindu) anointed himself as the King in Delhi. Else they would've revolted & cut him into pieces for betryaing Adil Shah.
Besides, if he was not the King of Delhi, there is no way he could have appointed Governors and Chief of Army. He appointed his brother as Governor of Ajmer, his nephew as the Chief or Army and made many other middle level officers appointment after being anointed as the King.
Some of the appointments he made and positions he created, were continued even in Akbar's reign.
