Yes the war began,but later it was seen that more soldiers died from disease than combat cause.
Militarily though war started in 1861,there was cold war from 1800's.South was based on agriculture,North on Industry.
But what amazes me that within few months how South managed to built Army?

More ever all Slave states did not join South,otherwise the war would be more violent.

Southern boys were more used to shooting rifles than Northern boys were.

Maryland was a slave state, but Lincoln kept it on the Union by martial law.

Lots of Marylanders fought for the South.
