its not surprising that putin comes up with this statement with a week of the announcement by Strategic command by india

if not russia which other country can india look to get the bombers from this is a good option for future

also in the pipeline is MI-38 new production

is it pak DA or something else

Its not PAKDA project its a new project details are on the blueprint and need time to develop funds for this wont be a problem as its verified and cleared for development as also MTA so expect to see a lot in the coming decade from russia

Any news if it will have stealth feature like B52 or not?

It is always better to depend on a bomber than a CM. My 2 paisa is on the Bomber to deliver the lethal blow.

B-2 you mean. B-52 is not stealth. Its a 1950s plane.

Since he said it is next generation, I am willing to bet that it will be a stealth bomber. But I don't understand why does he have to consider making newer bombers if cruise missiles and other types of Quasi-Cruise-Ballistic missiles can do the job?

Even though it is an interesting development I don't think IAF should consider this. A stealth bomber is invisible to the enemy radar but is vulnerable with a couple of pilots inside it. Rather than this, if the fast track and mass produce Shaurya with a decent IRBM type range coupled with mobile launchers stationed all around the China and Pakistan border similar to Agni-V's intended deployment plan, I think these bombers won't be needed.

PLAAF has an active fleet of upgraded Tu-16 long range bombers that it continues to produce with latest avionics and weapon controls. However, as a conventional bomber, it requires a fighter escort to soften up AAAs before it can commence bomb-drop. We don't need to counter this with our own bomber fleet. Instead use Chinese philosophy against them; invest in supersonic Quasi-missiles, and longer range versions of AKASH or other indigenous SAMs that can strike beyond 300 Km, all this to be stationed in Arunachal, Sikkim. Himachal, Uttarakhand, Ladakh, and even inside Bhutan after asking Bhutanese government's permission (I am sure they won't object).

The reason for me countering a bomber squadron is because the Chinese satellite system isn't as elaborate as the US GPS or the Russian GLONASS and it will take sometime before they can get the entire globe under their military eyes from the space. We need to start producing longer range SAMs and station them in the above-mentioned places before they get all their satellites in sync. Once they are active in our states and Bhutan (Nepal may not agree), even a complete satellite coverage won't help PLAAF much as our entire border would be armed to teeth with cheap yet cutting-edge tech (courtesy economies of scale) long range (300 Km+) SAM batteries which even the thousands of PLAAF fighters and bombers won't find it easy to cross.

Bombers in forward bases would be sitting ducks if there is a PLAAF air raid on our air fields and we have already seen this in the war with Pakistan when PAF improperly applied an otherwise very smart Israeli strategy to disable our air power. Hence more than bombers, we must focus on Multimode (Cruise-cum-ballistic a.k.a Shaurya type) missiles for hitting ground military targets in Occupied Tibet and long range SAMs for striking PLAAF bombers, all these with cutting edge navigating and seeking technologies.

Mind you all, we have an abysmally low inventory of missiles of different types when we compare it to Chinese. Better focus on missiles rather than bombers.

PAK-DA not for us : IAF Official



Denying rumors a serving Indian air force official have told idrw.org that , “IAF never ever considered nor did Russians ever presented any proposal on it ” has quoted by a serving IAF official when asked on rumors of India’s interest in PAK-DA development or purchase .

PAK DA (or PAK-DA), is a next generation strategic bomber which is being developed by Russia. It stands for Perspektivnyi Aviatsionnyi Kompleks Dalney Aviatsyi which means Future Air Complex for Strategic Air Forces. The PAK DA is going to be heavily based on Russia’s current supersonic bomber Tupolev Tu-160 and is expected to have it’s maiden flight by 2015. and enter service by 2020-25 time frame .

Currently, the Russian air force has Tu-95 and Tu-160 strategic bombers, as well as long range Tu-22 bombers. Indian Navy is past was interested in renting four Tu-22M bombers , but officially no explanation was given byIndian Navy on backing out, but sources close to idrw.org have told us that high maintenance cost and further expenditure on up-gradation of this aircraft’s which had to be borne by India and it is been also told that Tu-22M on offer where not in best of shape in terms of maintenance and airframe life where possible reason why Indian Navy turned away from this aircraft’s.

Rumors of Indian interest or Russian proposal of PAK-DA sparked of lately when India’s Strategic Nuclear Command requested to have its own separate fighter bombers for nuclear platform , Russian offer or PAK-DA purchase seems to be pure media speculation and doesn’t hold ground . but demand of SNC for immediate purchase of new aircraft’s for this jobs is still under review by Goverment of India .
