How is it US job to be concerned about our security? That is just pathetic, that we even expect out of the USA. Disgusting and Spineless.
Fvck, India is not concerned about India's security, why the hell should US or anybody care.

If Pakis were clever they would have made use of this opportunity to raise PKR 90 crore, which would have helped their bankrupt economy.

BUT,Pakis are not clever.

More than anything else, this open announcement will warn Hafiz and he will run into an "Abbottabad".

Real silly of the US. There is nothing to be happy for India in this. It is aimed at india to score points. But the picture is clear to me at least. Score points with India while the bogey runs away. God damnit he was out in the open all along. WTF
Maybe that is the plan. You cant send drones in open public ralleys.

Bounty on me for opposing NATO supplies: Hafiz Saeed

Islamabad: Hafiz Saeed, the Mumbai terror attack mastermind and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief for whom the US has announced a bounty of $10 million, said Tuesday this was because he had opposing the re-opening of NATO supply lines to Afghanistan, a media report said.

Saeed told the Al Jazeera TV channel the US move had come as he had been organising rallies against the re-opening of supply lines to NATO forces in Afghanistan.

Airstrikes last November 26 on two Pakistani Army checkposts in the Mohmand Agency in the northwest had killed two dozen soldiers, sparking outrage in Pakistan.

Islamabad promptly barred the passage of NATO supplies through the country and decided to boycott an international conference focussed on the future course of action in Afghanistan. It also told the US to vacate the key Shamsi airbase that was used to launch drone attacks.

The US on Monday announced an award of up to $10 million for information leading to arrest and conviction of Saeed and $2 million for Hafiz Adbul Rahman Makki, under the Rewards for Justice programme.

CT,
What are the chances of India on a covert mission to bump him off and the US just put spanners in the works and alerting him.

Hafiz Saeed doesn't look like a guy who will go down easily. Just saw his lawyer defend him on television & Paki minister also talking about Saeed's innocence.

Maybe this move is meant to stop Hafiz's official entry in Pakistani politics. He enjoys a wide ground support in pureland, it will be a great risk if he manages to earn a political position in GOP.

We are not sanctioning any covert ops deep inside 150km+ in Pakistan.

Should'nt it be DEAD or alive bounty.

A bit disappointing that the bounty is only for capture. The OBL bounty was dead or alive.

Also I would question the popularity of Hafiz Saeed. He won't be winning any elections unless the ISI/PA wants him to win. His main aim is to prevent the depletion of LeT cadre which is going away and joining the TTP. Remember most of the Punjabi taliban were former anti-India fighters and LeT members.

Hence the drama of this Dafaa-e-Pakistan council and so on.

If you look at even mainstream Salafi/Ahle-Hadith religious scholars in Pakistan itself, they have started to come out and openly protest against LeT and Hafiz Saeed. Check out this Novemeber 2011 video below

B Raman has tweeted that this appears more to soothe Indians to pressure on Iran. I called it the same as well!!! This move is BS.

He is not in a hiding an information on leading to his capture is a joke. Probably a look at the newspapers there would have info on what he did the previous day.

Some one please tell that to the Indian Government, where this man is a wanted man and has created enormous heart ache's, unlike in the US

This is our fight, US didnt have to support us, but they got in because of their conscious, value of our friendship and their self interest.
Adu, you are giving the US undue credit. It has nothing to do with friendship with India. I am sure we will hear something that goes in the favor of US as far as any business deal with India is concerned as a quid pro quo. Or we may see that India does open up logistics base for the US. Something is fishy here.

Lashkar chief Hafiz Saeed dares US, says he is not hiding in caves

ISLAMABAD: Lashing out at the US for putting a bounty of USD 10 million on his head, a combative Hafiz Mohammad Saeed today said Washington was "frustrated" with him for his countrywide protests against the resumption of NATO supplies and drone strikes.

"We are not hiding in caves for bounties to be set on finding us. I think the US is frustrated because we are taking out countrywide protests against the resumption of NATO supplies and drone strikes," LeT founder Saeed was quoted as saying by Al-Jazeera news channel.

He added, "I believe either the US has very little knowledge and is basing its decisions on wrong information being provided by India or they are just frustrated".

Saeed claimed the US move was prompted by the fact that he had been organising rallies against the reopening of NATO supply lines through Pakistan, which were closed after a cross-border attack that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers in November.

The US had last night announced a USD 10 million bounty on the Pakistan-based Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief who is also the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

The move has been welcomed by India today, which said it sends a strong signal to LeT and its "patrons" that the international community remains united in combating terrorism.

Wendy Sherman, the US Undersecretary of State, said a USD 2 million bounty had been announced for Abul Rehman Makki, the brother-in-law of Saeed.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik said he is yet to receive any official intimation from the US and noted that Saeed had been put under house arrest but was given bail by the Supreme Court.

"We should have been taken into confidence as to what has happened," he said when asked about the US putting a reward on Saeed's head.

Saeed among only 4 terrorists with $10 mn bounty on head

Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Mohammad Saeed has became one of only four terrorist leaders for whom the US has offered a bounty of $10 million, joining the likes of Afghan Taliban chief Mullah Omar.

The only person with a higher bounty on his head than these four terrorist leaders is al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri, for whom the US has offered a reward of $ 25 million under its Rewards for Justice programme.

Besides 61-year-old Saeed, the other terrorist leaders who carry a bounty of $ 10 million on their head are al-Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Du'a, one-eyed Mullah Omar and Yasin al-Suri alias Ezedin Abdel Aziz Khalil, a senior al-Qaeda facilitator based in Iran.

The listing for Saeed on the Rewards for Justice website describes him as a former professor of Arabic and Engineering who was a founding member of Jamaat-ud-Dawa, a radical Deobandi Islamist organisation dedicated to installing Islamist rule over parts of India and Pakistan, and its military branch, Lashkar-e-Taiba.

"Saeed is suspected of masterminding numerous terrorist attacks, including the 2008 Mumbai attacks, which resulted in the deaths of 166 people, including six American citizens," the listing further states.

The website noted that India has issued an Interpol Red Corner Notice against Saeed for his role in the Mumbai attacks. Besides, the US Department of the Treasury has designated Saeed as a "Specially Designated National under Executive Order 13224".

The Order provides a means to disrupt the financial support network for terrorists and terrorist groups by authorising the US government to designate and block the assets of foreign individuals and entities that commit, or pose a significant risk of committing, acts of terrorism.

The US has also offered a $ 2 million bounty for Saeed's deputy Abdul Rahman Makki, who is described on the Rewards for Justice website as the "second in command" of the LeT.

The US designated the LeT a "Foreign Terrorist Organisation" in December 2001 and the JuD was given the same designation in April 2008.

The UN Security Council declared the JuD a terrorist organisation in December 2008, soon after the Mumbai attacks.

Saeed, born on May 6, 1950 at Sargodha in Punjab province, was put under house arrest for less than six months after the Mumbai attacks, largely due to pressure from the international community.

He was freed in 2009 on the orders of the Lahore High Court.

Though the LeT was banned by the regime of former military ruler Pervez Musharraf, the Pakistan government has not formally outlawed the JuD.

The JuD also carries out its activities through the Falah-e-Insaniyat Foundation, which was created in the wake of the Mumbai attacks.

In recent months, Saeed has played a key role in cobbling together the Defa-e-Pakistan Council, a conglomerate of over 40 hardline and extremist groups that has organised massive rallies against the US and India across Pakistan.

JuD beefs security at Saeed's house after US bounty declaration

Lahore: The Jamaat-ud-Dawah beefed up security at the residence of its chief Hafiz Mohammad Saeed in the Pakistani city of Lahore after the US announced a 10-million dollar bounty for the man accused of masterminding the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

Besides nine policemen from Punjab Police deployed at Saeed's two-storey home at E Block of Jouhar Town, the JuD posted more armed volunteers to ensure foolproof security.

JuD leaders said they had not sought extra security from law enforcement agencies to protect Saeed and his brother-in-law Abdul Rehman Makki, for whom the US offered a two million dollar reward.

"We are relying on our own security. After the US move, we have attached extra volunteers with Hafiz sahib," a senior JuD leader told PTI at Saeed's residence.

A JuD spokesman claimed US bounty was "another attack by US government on Muslims and Islam." The JuD volunteers set up three barricades about 200 to 300 meters from Saeed's house.

The nine policemen were guarding these barricades while the JuD volunteers, equipped with sophisticated weapons, were on duty inside the building. "After today's development, the JuD men asked us to be more vigilant," a police guard, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told PTI.

He said groups of nine policemen were deployed at Saeed's house for shifts of six hours. Some 60 policemen were deployed at the residence when Saeed was under house arrest, the police guard said. The JuD also maintains records of several families living in buildings adjacent to Saeed's home. Any person visiting these buildings has to undergo a body search by JuD volunteers before entering the barricaded street where Saeed's residence is located.

Saeed was not in his residence today as he was away on a tour. He recently addressed a meeting at Faisalabad and was scheduled to visit Layyah, located about 300 km from Lahore. A Lahore Police spokesman said authorities had not received any request from Saeed for extra security.

"We have nothing to do with the US move to put a bounty on Saeed. Unless Saeed gives us a written request about a threat to his life in the wake of the US reward, we cannot provide him further security," he said.
