CBI website hacked

New Delhi: On a day when India's premier investigating agency Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is swamped with the investigation of major corruption cases, in a major embarrassment, its website has been hacked.

People who logged on to the CBI's official home page cbi.gov.in were redirected to a page which said this attempt was in response to Pakistani websites hacked by 'Indian Cyber Army'.

"CBI is aware that its official website has beden hacked and defaced. An inquiry has bee n launched and necessary remedial measures are underway to restore it," CBI PRO RK Gaur said.

In addition to the CBI website, the self-proclaimed Pakistan Cyber army claims to have hacked another 270 websites.

Why are our govt. websites so vulnerable to attacks? CBI's website being hacked is very very serious issue. Earlier vijay mallya's MP a/c was hacked and now this. When will our govt learn?

I am an IT professional. so i can say that it's not CBI fault and this is not even a hack. no data has been compromised.

if your site is been redirected to another site, then there is only one possible explanation...
it is called 'DNS Hack' or DNS poisoning. CBI has no control over DNS.

All that really happened is someone gave the DNS network a new wrong IP address to http://www.cbi.nic.in, and that merely took you to a phony site hosted elsewhere. Not that CBI's actual website was compromised.

India has the largest population of ethical hackers. The reason we don't use them to knock Pakistan's IT-enabled infrastructure unconscious overnight sending its economy into an irreversible downward spiral is that it would affect our credibility as a place where the BPO/ITES companies keep confidential information safe.

Come on, this is nothing serious.It is just a bunch of jokers who hacked some site. Can you believe that Pentagon's site got hacked easily; then we can easily imagine how easy it will be for Pakistani hackers to access data from our government sites. What worries me is not Pakistani hacking but Chinese hacking whereby lots of sensitive data just vanishes. There's just no cell to counter-strike Chinese hacking which is more or less real hacking as compared to what a bunch of lazy, semi-literate and fanatic teenagers did from Pakistan to CBI site.

Chinese hacking has to be taken care of if we have to have any credibility to call ourselves an IT superpower.

DRDO to develop hack-proof websites

Close on the heels of hacking of the CBI website, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Sunday said it was developing a mechanism to make websites hacking-proof. This was stated by Dr V K Saraswat, Scientific Advisor to Defence Minister and Director General of DRDO, on the sidelines of a function where he was conferred with a D. Sc degree by the KIIT University at its annual convocation.


Referring to the hacking of CBI website on the intervening night of December 3 and 4, Saraswat described cyber security as a major concern for the nation's safety.The CBI has registered a case against unknown persons for hacking and defacement of its official website by people, who identified themselves as "Pakistani Cyber Army".


DRDO is developing both software and hardware to put defence networks out of the reach of hackers, he said."It is always better to use indigenously developed systems than using others' designs," he said. The DRDO chief expressed optimism that its engineers could certainly develop hacking proof devices.
