Pakistani Flag Raised at Rally of Separatist Masarat Alam, Freed Recently

SRINAGAR: Supporters of separatist Masarat Alam, who was controversially released from prison recently, waved Pakistani flags and raised pro-Pakistan slogans at a rally in Srinagar today. The BJP has demanded immediate action and asked why the rally was allowed.

The rally was organised by Masarat Alam to welcome Hurriyat Conference hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani back to the Valley after several months in Delhi. As hundreds of Mr Alam's supporters marched through the city and right in front of the office of the state's Director General of Police, several of them waved Pakistan flags.

Following the incident, the Jammu and Kashmir Police registered a case under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against Mr Alam, Mr Geelani and other separatist leaders present at the rally.

Masarat Alam, 44, is allegedly the main organiser of the massive protests in 2010 that saw Kashmiris clashing for months with Indian soldiers and police officers. More than 100 people were killed in the violence. He was released controversially from Baramulla jail in March, days after the People's Democratic Party or PDP's Mufti Mohammad Sayeed took over as chief minister at the head of a government in which the BJP partners.

"It is highly objectionable and condemnable. The slogans which were raised were pro Pakistan and Pakistan flags, it is unacceptable. Mufti should take cognizance of it so that message clearly goes out to Pakistan supporters that it will not be accepted," said the BJP's GVL Narasimha Rao today.

There is expected to be renewed criticism of the decision to release Masarat Alam from jail. When he was released Opposition parties attacked the BJP-led central government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said in the Lok Sabha, "I also lend my voice to the outrage on the release of the separatist... this is not one party's outrage, it is the nation's outrage."

The PDP is yet to react.

The latest controversy will also exacerbate an already tense relationship between partners PDP and BJP, who are ideological opposites and have come together to give Jammu and KAshmir a government on the basis of a common minimum programme.

Cracks have showed from day 1, when the Mufti had thanked "people from across the border" - seen as a reference to Pakistan - and militants for allowing smooth elections in the state, hours after he was sworn in

They should have their citizenship revoked by the Indian supreme court and then be marched by the army to the boarder and thrown into Pakistan, while shot of sight if they return. If there is no way for the govt to revoke citizenship, there should be a constitutional amendment to allow it. It's one thing to want to be independent, but a Pakistani flag? These parasites don't want to be part of our great nation, no problem, lets strip them of that membership and show them the consequences.

India's SC judges have their own personal and political interests, many times they act more like activists and less like Judges. Had this not bee the case the SC rulings on Priya Pillai and teesta Setalvad might have been different.

I say execute the top leadership. No trials, pick the leaders up, execute them, frame the foot soldiers and hang them for the crime.

Kashmir belongs to India, but Kashmiris cannot live with us, cannot tolerate us, better release them from the entrapment of this single Human form, make a hole in their body and set them free. Do it like an act of charity.

News trickling in suggest that the J&K government has refused to act against the protestors and their leaders.

Is PDP trying to create 1990-like situation?

I think people should calm down a little. This is not the first this has happened nor it will be the last. The massive rally media is harping about is smaller than what a person running for corporator can gather in any Tier II city.

From the looks of it he won't be able win a ward let alone get Kashmir "free".

Also, it's about time that BJP takes it's head out of it's as.s and concede that Mufti played them for a fool, a big one at that and is now eagerly waiting for the dissolution of the assembly.

BJP should do absolutely nothing. In fact a shouting match is what the other side requires to gain legitimacy. This has been going on for last 1000 years and is happening on this very forum too in a somewhat sly manner.

I need the AIIMS in Jammu, consolidation of Hindus of Jammu and Buddhists of Ladakh, perennial presence of IA in the valley, settlement of pandits and in general to have the Hindus and Buddhists to hang about the neck of the valley muslims. Rinse repeat in a never ending loop. Not one rupee should be spent on valley muslims till 2 are spent for the Hindus and Buddhists. We will call it Sabka Vikas Sabka Saath :p.

That is the only real solution.

But yes Mufti must be made to realize his own responsibilities. These guys were released because Mufti wanted them released. These are Mufti's men and he has to bear the cost of this.

This is Karmic theory in action. BJP has the karmic balance to do this. The other parties don't. Don't like it. Learn to live with it.

We keep on harping on our chankyan neeti, but if chanakya was alive he would have given a facepalm or a tight slap to our leadership. In 65 ----ing years we should have been able to change the demographics of Kashmir to our favour, but instead we gave them concessions, subsidies, article 370, lives of countless soldiers which could have saved had our leadership had any brains and this is what happens in return.

The problem is India is bitten by some kind of idealistic mentality, that we can win these people with development, our enemies must be laughing at us. If we cant understand the mindset of these people, or we refuse to understand then kashmir will be this way for a long time. We keep loosing soldiers to these ungrateful people.

That doesn't look like Paki flag..where's the white strip?

Too me it looks like the standard Parcham-e-sitara-o-hilaal.

Maybe from a different angle.

Lock the baskets and throw away the key.

Let the Central forces gear up for the Pakistan sponsored separatist.

Send them a message - this far and no further.

And sack the PDP govt and the NC, slaves of the vote bank but actually to fill the coffers of the Obdullah and Mufti families.

And all will be well.

We are waiting to see the "strict" action. Prevention is better than cure. Mufti Mohammed Sayeed must be made answerable for this incident.

Separatists' rally: Rajnath talks to J&K CM, seeks strict action

NEW DELHI: Union home minister Rajnath Singh has asked the Jammu & Kashmir government to take immediate and strict action against separatist leaders who were part of a rally during which anti-India slogans were raised and Pakistani flags were displayed.

Union home minister Rajnath Singh spoke to chief minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed on Wednesday night and made it clear that the issue of national security cannot be compromised.

The home minister directed that "strictest possible action should be taken against those involved in it."

After a gap of five years, Jammu & Kashmir government on Wednesday allowed Geelani to hold the rally where his supporters including Masarat Alam, released from jail last month, raised pro-Pakistan slogans and others waved Pakistani flags.

Meanwhile, separatist leader Masrat Alam was on Wednesday booked for unlawful activities.

An FIR was lodged against him for "provocative activities" in Hyderpora area. FIR No 92 /2015 was registered under sections 13 Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 120-B, 147,341,336,427 RPC.

Pakistani flags are pretty common among muslims of kashmir.

They are just a bunch of filth who think they are arabs and yet somehow own the state. Unless we take ruthless actions against them, they won't change.

Sorry for the brute language, but history is evidence of this.

yeah..thats exctly the very same thing pakistan and other india bashing factions in kashmir also wants india to do so the remaining too pro india citizens would turn against us.
It makes me wonder why no one never says anything like this when more and more lives of men are lost daily in Naxal belt.
Remember its a democracy and instead of using excessive military force, only enhancing more and more people friendly schemes will only win the hearts.
If you are going to kill each and every terrorist syympathiser then i is only going to create 10 times the dead.If you have any doubt check the statistics, amidst the strict military action terrorists always manages to keep a number of 300 men in kashmir. This is the very example of the support gained from local people. And alleged human rights violations had played a cruicial role in this.
