More MiG 29K aircraft to be inducted into Navy: Admiral Verma

Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Nirmal Verma, on Saturday said that more MiG 29K aircraft and helicopters would be inducted into the Indian Navy in the next two years.

Talking to media after the commissioning of INS Shakti, a fleet tanker, at the Naval Dockyard on Saturday, he said 29 MIG 29K aircraft and 16 helicopters would be acquired within two years.

Earlier, 16 aircraft of this class, (12 fighter and 4 trainee aircraft) had been acquired.

The Navy Chief also said that aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya would be delivered to the Indian Navy as per the schedule, and Italy was extending cooperation for another aircraft carrier, being built by the Cochin shipyard.

well cant we go for more lca2 , dont you guys think we should induct more local product

These 16 + 29 = 45 is for 2 Aircraft carrier. Also 6 Tejas naval variant will also be inducted in 2 years.

This 45 MIG29 is not for Naval Land Airforce but for 2 Aircraft carrier.

It doesn't seem like naval LCA is being given much faith. I understand why they order more 29K to actually have something to fly off of it. It is a defeat for local industry.

These 45 MIG29 are not new order. It is old one. It was scheduled to come by 2013 end.

Yes, I agree about LCA part.

We only inducting 40 Tejas MK1 and 6 aircraft variant.

May be Tejas MK2 will be more important after 2016.

LCA naval variant is far from the MIG-29k its more a step ahead of the Indian navy harriers

in fact mig-29 for naval role is also a big mistake. mig-29 even after so many improvement will seems to be an out-dated fighter.
just imagine mig-29 fighter in 2020 against su-33 of plan.

naval lca can be inducted in good no. moreover i want regular lca to be inducted into navy to give shore protection and island protection so as to relive IAF of cap over navy assets in war

These 2 ACC were finalised in 2004. At that time, There was no other option. So, It was fine. (MIG35, Sukhoi 30/35 are not aircraft variant). US fighter jets comes with many strings. Gripen don't have naval variant. Typhoon/Rafale were/are expensive. May be we can change in future. It will be possible.

For 2ACC (INS Vishal) which will come in our navy by 2020, We might buy 35-40 Rafale/Typhoon/F-18/F-15/F-35.

when our IAF can stall the tejas project for decades in the name of change in intl scenario and IA can make an attempt to kill arjun in the same manner cant IN just look around a bit. there are lots of planes available even back then. to buy.

What about it? MiG-29K has the latest Zhuk PESA, Chinese clones are of older Zhuks so IN will have the better. R-77 against PL-12 is no match and going into a dogfight with a TVC MiG-29 is suicide.

Lets face is, Tejas might be good but it's very delay. Earlier, we hoped Tejas will be inducted in 3 figures by 2011. Today, we have 0.

For Naval airforce

1. INS Viraat will decommissioned by 2018.

2. INS Vikramaditya - 16-24 MIG29 + 0-6 Tejas + few combat helicopters. (By 2013)

3. INS Vikrant - 25-29 MIG 29 + 0-6 Tejas + few combat helicopters (By 2014)

These are final.

4. INS Vishal - 35-40 4.5th/5th Generation aircraft like F-35 or Rafale/Typhoon. (By 2020) [ Fighter jets not yet finalised]

We have 4-5 naval airbases Kochi, Dabolim, Visakhapatnam, Port Blair, etc. - For these bases, we need some 50 aircraft fighter - There are some news that we might add 50 Tejas MK1/2 naval variant or MIG 29 or better jets like Rafale/typhoon later. There will be also some 30-40 attack helicopter like LCH. Let see !!

Thrust vectoring Mig 29? Mig29 K does not have any TVC.

Also some quality anti-Ship and Anti-radiation missiles like Kh-25,31,35

Not really, without a catapult it can't carry much payload.

still guys i think In should consider some good aircraft for AC( offensive role) and port protection.
