"there are not many countries that would want a 60-ton battle tank" that depends very strictly upon the terrain , Abrams too are very heavy , it is just that india's terrian is super diverse ,k2 is 55t
There's no terrain in India that suits heavy tanks.

On what Parameter/Parameters is the VT-4 MBT better than the Arjun MBT? And also which variant of Arjun are you Comparing or claiming is inferior to the VT-4 MBT?
The author is saying VT-4 is having APS hence it is superior to Arjun MBT.
The author claims APS is making VT-4 MBT completely invincible/safe to/from ATGMs.

Then we need to add up to 50k anti tank missiles we have 😬 thats an overkill for these pigs
IA uses ATGMs primarily against destroying enemy bunkers and fixed position along LOC. So yes, it won't be an overkill but an requirement. However only indigenous system i.e. Nag and its derivatives must be inducted in such high quantity.

Its confirmed from pics that vt4 doesn't have any APS
To be honest I don't know much about the tank, but the author claims it will be having GL5 Active Protection
System.

The bellow article mentions VT-4 will come with GL5 Active Protection System.

That's the exact opposite. Plains, deserts and plateaus are suited for tanks with higher mobility and lesser of a logistical footprint.
Tank being heavy and not being mobile are 2 different things.
Plains, deserts and plateaus is where most of tank vs tank battle will take place hence heavy tanks are needed their.
Heavy tanks formation with proper support can steam-roll anything they come across in Plains, deserts and plateaus.
With modern ATGMs urban terrain is the worst for tank deployment.

Tanks being heavy makes them even worse logistical nightmares with lubricants, fuel, treads and the like which in turn affects their operational range. Offensive firepower of 120mm doesn't necessitate a 60 ton tank, and the greatest value and importance of a tank comes in it's direct fire support role to infantry/mechanized infantry, tank on tank engagements are rarer, and far more dependant on situational awareness and coordination. Contrary to popular conception by the way, tanks are absolutely useful in urban combat when used correctly in a proper combined arms approach and with proper operational planning. ATGMs and recoilless rifles aren't as simple to use as peoplecassume. They require select positions that have the neccessary space, observation and coverage to allow effective engagement, that can in turn be accounted for and scrutinized with proper infantry recon and terrain analysis. Our tank philosophy should be built around a powerful offense, situational awareness/engagement cycle and logistics.

New Panther KF-51 MBT

The design is sexy.

No chance we can get it as Germany isn't a reliable defense supplier. They may have good people-to-people and trade links with us but defence partnership with them has been sketchy. Not to mention, if we use these for anything else other than averting an invasion, the supplies stop.

They have this stupid rule that they don't supply arms, spares etc if countries are using them in wars - yeah you heard that right; no spares or weapons even when both sides are fighting.

The FMBT contenders are either the new Nexter "Leclerc 2" concept.
