I've visited the Indian side of Pangong last year. They had described it as a lake that shines in rainbow colours, etc, and filled with soldiers. Guess what I saw when I got there? Nothing. All these fancy toys both sides are supposed to have, I couldn't even see a soldier. If they were there, they were really well hidden.

TEMPEST 35-SPC

A series of 17 fast patrol craft ordered by an undisclosed foreign government from Tampa Yacht Manufacturing (TYM) feature propulsion systems comprising two inboard Yanmar 6LPA(2)-STP2 diesel engines each developing a maximum 230kW (315hp) and directly driving an Ultrajet UJ305 waterjet to provide a 'wide-open throttle' speed of 40 knots. may be sea mines are best for them, specially remotely controlled mines, if they cross over to our area, it shall be at their own risk.

Internet information says that the narrowest part of this lake is only 5 meters wide and thus the lake is almost divided into two parts. The narrowest part lies in China and both countries are standing against in the salt part, this also explains why all the chinese boats are tiny ones.

India to counter 'Chinese aggression': QRTs from US to man Ladakh

India to counter 'Chinese aggression': QRTs from US to man Ladakh - daily.bhaskar.com

New Delhi: Alarmed by the Chinese army's aggressive posturing along the unresolved Line of Actual Control, Indian soldiers have been armed with new hi-tech boats to counter their hostile neighbour.

According to a report published in a leading English daily, hi-tech quick-reaction team (QRT) boats that can carry 16 to 18 soldiers to patrol Ladakh's emerald green Pangong Tso Lake. READ: Full article here

The highly-picturesque, which has turned into a major tourist destination, has an ugly side to it - the dispute between India and China over parts of the lake over the last decade.

Equipped with radars, infra-red and GPS systems, the boats have been ordered from the US, report said.

In the past, Chinese boats have rammed into Indian troops handicapped by outdated, smaller vessels. "With the hi-tech boats, Indian troops can snook three km into Chinese territory if the Dragon tries to enter one km into our region," said an officer.

The QRT boats in Pangong Tso forms part of India's efforts to build military assets and infrastructure along the LAC to counter China, which now has five full-fledged airbases. More so, at south of Pangong Lake, evidences of new Chinese military construction and build up can be seen.

Chinese incursions in Ladakh have been on the rise since long. Notably, over 550 incursions of Chinese forces have been reported into Indian territory of the LAC just since January, 2010.

More recently, Indian and Chinese soldiers came face to face in eastern Ladhakh in July when the latter tried to transgress into the Indian territory along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

The Indian side did not call it an "incursion", but an attempt of transgression by the Chinese PLA. The Indian army brought the matter to the notice of authorities concerned through established mechanism.

Ladakh has always been a major flashpoint between the world's largest and second-largest armies. Few months back, the Chinese Army had reportedly forced the Jammu and Kashmir government to suspend work on the irrigation project in Leh district of Ladakh division.

It was the third time in the last three years that a major development project was suspended or abandoned under the Chinese pressure in Leh district of Ladakh division.

In 2010, the Chinese army forced the state government to suspend work on passenger sheds being constructed near the China border at Demchok area in Leh district.

Earlier, a road project was abandoned after Chinese army objected to its construction.

My question:
1. Why even for a small patrol boat, India needs to import from foreign nation? Dose India's defense industry really such dependent on western world?

2. Why China or PLA can force India's internal and civil construction? any treaty or agreement allows this?

these boats have no meaning in this area. they are just guarding assets. in the time of war how come these boats will ensure chinese not entering indian territory or how can 10-12 chinese motor boats will check indian counter aggression? there is no way these boats stand a chance against a full scale fight.

its better to have standby units of sophisticated transport crafts and higher firepower. long range rockets can easily destroy entire armada of chinese west sea navy.

my bet is on more firepower than more showoff.
