Well, with all the indications and speculations - we can very well conclude that the Rafale will be the winner!

P.S: It's a different case all together regarding - who gets what out of the whole MMRCA charade, and if in the end IAF turns out to be the sole loser!

France's Dassault lowest bidder for India jet buy: sources

    NEW DELHI | Tue Jan 31, 2012 6:40am EST

(Reuters) - France's Dassault (AVMD.PA) has placed the lowest bid to supply India with 126 fighter jets in a closely watched multi-billion dollar deal, two government sources said on Tuesday.

The tender is being fought between Dassault's Rafale jet and Eurofighter's Typhoon. Further commercial negotiations will take place before a deal is signed, the sources said.

Finally some news from the government even if it does not mean that the order has been signed...atleast they have announced who is L1. I not being pessimistic however i do hope there is no corruption involved in the process?

Rafale bags IAF`s USD 10 bn MMRCA deal
New Delhi, May 21: After being ruled out of the race for IAF's over USD 10 billion contract for 126 Medium Multirole Combat Aircraft (M-MRCA), French contender Rafale fighter aircraft has reportedly bagged the prestigious contract.

This has finally ended suspense over the speculated winner of the USD 10.4 billion deal to equip Indian Air Force with 126 medium multi-role combat aircraft.

The French fighter aircraft, which was earlier declared out of the race after it was found lacking on certain requirements of the IAF during the technical evaluation phase of the contract, was mainly competing with European consortium EADS’ Cassidian (Eurofighter Typhoon).

The deal was awarded to Rafale after evaluation of bids of the European consortium from Germany, Britain, Italy, Spain and EADS Cassidian by the Indian officials to figure out the fly-away cost, life cycle cost, technology transfer cost and the offset offers before the winner of the contract will be known.

The offset clause in the tender, included under the Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP) of 2006, requires the winner of the tender to reinvest 50 percent of the deal amount in the Indian defence industry in an effort to energise it.

India had in April down-selected the Eurofighter Typhoon and the Rafale and asked the manufacturers to extend their commercial bids that were on the point of expiring, till the middle of December.

The down-select had resulted in the rejection of four other contending aircraft -- the Lockheed Martin F-16, the Boeing F/A-18, Russian United Aircraft Corp's MiG-35 and Swedish SAAB's Gripen

Best Part is this deal has come to conclusion. Rafale is a good choice. Exclusively to India so far. French should be obliged to us. I hope IAF gets what it wants out of this deal.

Can't believe my eyes and ears. How MOD can decide so soon. They must take 10 more years to decide. Anyhow Rafael is a good plane but 126 planes over 10 years isn't too long..
