Onward to the eastern Indian city of Kolkata. Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) is the capital of the state of West Bengal, and served as the colonial capital of the British Raj until 1911. It is a vibrant, bustling city with a blend of neolithic colonial architecture and modern, neoteric buildings. It has a population in excess of 15 million and is the world's 14th largest urban conglomeration. It is also the only Indian city currently with trams. I will begin with some of Kolkata's more renowned locations:

Movin' on to Dakshin Hindostaan! : Welcome to Kochin

Kochin, formerly Cocym / Cochin / Cochi, is one of the principal seaports in the Indian state of Kerala. Located in the district of Ernakulam, about 220 km north of the state capital, Thiruvananthapuram, ut has an estimated population of 600,000, with an extended metropolitan population of about 1.5 million. Heralded as the Queen of Arabian Sea, Kochi was an important spice trading centre on the Arabian Sea coast since the 14th century, and became the seat of the Kingdom of Cochin, a princely state tracing its lineage to the Kulasekhara empire. Today, Kochin is a growing centre of information technology, tourism and international trade, and is one of the fast growing Tier-II metros in India.

Am I allowed to sneak in a comment into this multimedia thread? I think it's fabulous that India is developing and changing dramatically. I'll spend a lot of time enjoying the pictures and videos of New India. I think it's great that everyone is moving into the modern age.
