BBC Poll: China, Pakistan, Germany most negative about India

A BBC Poll across 28 countries finds that global perceptions about the US have become more positive, while those of India are more negative as compared to a year ago.
For the first time since 2005, views of the US are more positive than negative, leading the Steven Kull, director of the Program on International Policy Attitudes (Pipa) to conclude: “the ‘Obama effect’ is real.”
Interestingly, India is one of just two countries (the other being Turkey) in which perceptions of the US became more negative. In India, positive perceptions dipped from 43 per cent to 39 per cent and negative views increased from 20 to 28 per cent. The poll shows that the only two countries to have majorities with negative views of the United States are Turkey (70%) and Pakistan (52%).
“Worldwide, views of India lean only modestly to the positive, barely edging out views of China. Among 27 countries polled, 15 are positive about India‘s influence in world affairs, ten are negative and two are divided. On average, among 27 countries, 36 per cent are positive and 31 per cent negative about India‘s influence. A high 33 per cent d do not provide an answer or are neutral,” says the report.
China, Pakistan and Germany are found to be the most negative about India, with 47 percent, 48 percent and 46 percent of those polled from these countries expressing negative views. South Korea and the US are the most positive about India, with 56 percent and 55 percent respectively stating that they have positive perceptions.
Negative views about India in Portugal and Italy have decreased since 2009, while in France and Germany positive views have risen.
Germany is the most favourably viewed nation (an average of 59% positive), followed by Japan (53%), the United Kingdom (52%), Canada (51%), and France (49%). The European Union is viewed positively by 53 per cent. In contrast, Iran is the least favourably viewed nation (15%), followed by Pakistan (16%), North Korea (17%), Israel (19%), and Russia (30%). China has remained almost stable: its positive ratings remain at 40 per cent, while its negative ratings have fallen a little, to 38 per cent.

Very very interesting. Curiously China remains relatively liked in the world despite constant media barrages against it for Google. Any member here that can enlighten me on the animosity held by Germans towards India would be appreciated.

They stole it from us If I am not mistaken! They should be grateful for it!

On a serious note, wasnt it the Germans who sent in a team to submit a report on the Gujrat riots and Modi? What with their sudden India hate trip? Maybe time we talked tough, but then its the Germans, who the hell cares unless you are a Nazi Hunter=heheh

^^The moot point is that we freely use swastika in our rituals and if germans try to use that they will be called nazis and racist and that can be their jealousy towards india.hence negative views on gujrat and india. The real point is that they want to prove themselves as champions of human rights after WW2.And its the germany which gives arms and aid to israel freely after usa just to wipe off ww2 guilt towards jews genocide. .

Another, People consider India as a poor country (people who are unaware compare it with Afghan, Pak while talking about economic status.)
It's no one to blame but ourselves.... we need to fix these problems in our country. Poverty, Quality of life, Education standards. Those three will make India a superpower of the world. A power greater than simply having nuclear weapons.

Our government's focus should be EDUCATION. They should put 50% of our GDP on education (not literally, but i mean, INCREASE SPENDING IN THIS AREA!!!!)

In order for the world to think differently of India, we need to care about the 50% that lives in a lower class life. Countries like China have no potential in achieving this (communist). If ALL Indians realize this, there should be no reason why we won't be the #1 nation in the world. And no one will think 'negatively' of us.

When someone says INDIA, we should be hearing good about it. Right now, there is no such status for our country. If we prove ourselves, what status will Pakistan have to comment badly on us? The reason they are always talking bad about India is because there IS bad in it. Every Pakistani laughs that Indian poverty is 30%, etc etc.... this is our fault guys. We cannot argue with them. We should create more awareness within our own people. And tell them, it's not for the good of the country. But it's for the betterment of themselves. I hope some of the older members don't get mad, but people in India don't know what luxuries they are missing. The US has all of them. If we could be more educated, automatically India will have these, and every day people don't need to worry about having to simply 'feed' their family 1, or 2 meals a day. (like they are now)

    Jai Hind.

    Life expectancy: 73
    Literacy: approx 90%
    Population under poverty line: 2.8%

How exactly has China failed in pulling it's people out of poverty? It's the primary intention of the Communist party.

Indian people should not give a damn about who hates you for whatever reasons. You don't have to cater to them to win their affection.

By what measure of poverty is China's population living under the poverty line "2.8%"?

The best estimates of Chinese poverty currently place it at between 12 and 15%.

As of 2005, China had set its poverty line at an average income of 668 yuan (81 US dollars) per year. That is more than a fifth below the int'l poverty line of $1.25 a day.

Based on those estimates, about 90 million Chinese lived under the "int'l poverty line" ($112 a year) calculated then.

if you see the full survey one thing is clear that Indians were undecided most of the time. European union cunts have proved again that they hate most of the Asian countries and their influence and India is not an exception. Germany if you ask any immigrant is the most racist nation to work in after Dubai and Australia. The jobs coloured people given are only those left by white people after third or fourth waiting lists in Germany enforced by labour unions. They have nothing specific against India but its their built in racial prejudice against all coloured races running since medieval times.

People reflect what they see, if the German media's only coverage of India is about caste issue or religious issue then the people would form a negative opinion of the country based on that. It doesn't necessarily mean they hate India, looking at the numbers the difference between most positive and most negative opinion is just 9%, so by and large people are neutral about India.

I do agree with nimo_cn, all this is irrelevant, it doesn't really matter whether other people like your country or not.
