Feels good to know that Finnish women were raped by the Vikings, doesn't it? No wonder you are so happy. :p

And today, you are shamelessly using that DNA evidence left by the rapist Vikings to claim that Rurik was a Finn.
Keep living in dreams, just like your twisted view of this Ukraine-Russia conflict. Blessed are those who do not know.

Ukraine = Krai.

The name Rus originated from Roslagen, the land of Vikings. The Slavs adopted that name, but Russians are predominantly Slavs. People did not know the name "Russia" in the 12th century, because, it is a foreign term, because "Rus" comes from Sweden, and Sweden is not Russia, and Swedes are not Slavs.
I have a lot to argue about the origin of the word, but I'm not a historian. Rurik founded the state in the 9th century, Kiev was founded in the 5th century, on the site of the Greek colony.

I am talking about Kievskaya Rus. If you are not talking about Kievskaya Rus, then don't mention when Kiev was founded. That is not the point of discussion. That is a deflection.

P.S.: My dates are correct. That 12th century came from your post.

Friendly Advice: If you want to learn Finnish history, never ask a person from Finland. He is probably ignorant, and Finnish history books teach a lot of nonsense and cooked up stories about Finnish history.

Bonus post:

Interesting I always thought all Scandinavians were Vikings?
@Razor is correct, and if I may add, Finns are descended from the Finno-Ugric or Ugro-Finn tribes.

Finno-Ugric peoples

Excerpt:
The Finno-Ugric peoples are any of several peoples of Eurasia who speak languages of the Finno-Ugric group of the Uralic language family, such as the Khanty, Mansi, Hungarians, Maris, Mordvins, Sámi, Estonians, Karelians, Finns, Udmurts and Komis.
Here are some examples of people from the regions highlighted above:

Arsen Pavlov aka Motorola is from Komi.

Ruslan Provodnikov, a Russian boxer, is from Khanty-Mansisk.

A Sámi woman.

Your translation is good.

People of the world (not the "world" some delusional individuals talk about) are well aware about "European values" and "western values." It is good that people are speaking up. You people need to speak up more before they take away your rights to free speech. Have patience my friend - NATO is going to collapse, and that will, hopefully, end the vassalhood of so many European countries.

@Vlaad. Maybe NATO bombed Serbia because they anticipated that at some point conflict between west and Russia is going to come. They did not wanted a strong and united Serbia as a friend of Russia in the middle of Europe. @arpakola, maybe EU deliberately brought debt crisis to Greece to keep a friend of Russia on its knees in Europe.
For once, I share your opinion. :)

Believe it or not, in Yugoslavia, regardless of nationality, we all looked up to US. I grew up with f-15 and f-14 plane models... My father used to travel a lot in Moscow to do business, he has a lot of stories to tell and ironically many of his Russian colleagues shared same positive attitude towards west. Only when neo-conservatives took over official policy as worlds "indispensable" nation and started forcing their values upon nations and actively looking for enemies things dramatically changed.

Here as in Ukraine, they manage to split people by glorifying old conflicts. Mix it up with widespread corruption, primitive corrupt politicians add a bit of propaganda and you have yourself conflict zone. Now you can be a superhero, jump in to save "underdog"... Tried and tested method, it seems to work very well.

Just a note, Greece never supported bombing of Serbia even though it was a NATO member. It was also historical ally of Serbia...

Maybe at the end of the day this is the real reason for unrests in Serbia, Greece and Ukraine. The age old fight between east and west, you just happen to be in the crossing point. Blaming only US is not the whole picture.

Nobody can stop people from doing what they want to do. Borders have become meaningless in the modern world.

Prosecution of people who fought in Ukraine will ONLY INCREASE THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WILLING TO FIGHT.

There is a deep sense of hurt in the people of Serbia, and I see great support from Serbia to the NovoRussia cause.

A lot of States have disappeared from the face of the earth. Ukraine is soon getting there. Ukraine is AN ARTIFICIAL STATE with NO VALUES OR PRINCIPLES, only a piece of land.

British "non-lethal" aid proves lethal...to the Ukrainian military
By J.Hawk

Apparently not all the UK-provided Saxons were sold off--some of them were actually issued to the UAF, specifically the 79th Airmobile Brigade which previously operated BMD-series air-droppable infantry fighting vehicles, many of which were destroyed or captured already during the summer 2015 campaign by the Novorossia militia. So they were issued Saxons instead, vehicles with a rather high center of gravity which makes them far more sensitive to sudden turning movements than, say, Russian BTR-series wheeled APCs. Still, at the rate things are going, one wonders if any of these vehicles will be in service long enough for Novorossia to capture them! The accident, which took place on the Kiev-Kharkov highway, involved two Saxons and left one Ukrainian soldier dead and one wounded. If this is how elite UAF formations handle their equipment, what can be said about the hastily recalled reservists with hardly any refresher training?

Volunteer Ukrainian unit includes Nazis

MARIUPOL, Ukraine — A volunteer brigade with self-proclaimed Nazis fighting alongside government troops against Russian-backed separatists is proving to be a mixed blessing to its cause.

Though the 900-member Azov Brigade adds needed manpower to repulse the rebels, members who say they are Nazis are sparking controversy, and complaints of abuses against civilians have turned some residents against them.

A drill sergeant who would identify himself only as Alex wore a patch depicting Thor's Hammer, an ancient Norse symbol appropriated by neo-Nazis, according to the Anti-Defamation League.

In an interview with USA TODAY, he admitted he is a Nazi and said with a laugh that no more than half his comrades are fellow Nazis. He said he supports strong leadership for Ukraine, like Germany during World War II, but opposes the Nazis' genocide against Jews. Minorities should be tolerated as long as they are peaceful and don't demand special privileges, he said, and the property of wealthy oligarchs should be taken away and nationalized.

He vowed that when the war ends, his comrades will march on the capital, Kiev, to oust a government they consider corrupt

Russian media exploit such statements to describe the brigade in this port city in eastern Ukraine as a bunch of thugs who menace the population yet are embraced by Ukraine's national government.

Andriy Diachenko, a spokesman for the Azov Brigade, said only 10% to 20% of the group's members are Nazis. "I know Alex is a Nazi, but it's his personal ideology. It has nothing to do with the official ideology of the Azov," Diachenko said. "He's a good drill sergeant and a good instructor for tactics and weapons skills."

The brigade's deputy commander, Oleg Odnorozhenko, complained that Alex does not speak for the group. "If he has his own sympathies, it's his own matter," Odnorozhenko said in a former high school serving as a base. "But he has no right to make statements in a way they can be construed as the position of the regiment. He will be dealt with severely for his lack of discipline."

Col. Oleksiy Nozdrachov, a member of the Ukrainian Armed Services' General Staff in Kiev, defended the brigade's members as patriots. "They are volunteers who decided to sacrifice their lives to the country," Nozdrachov said. "They are tough and fierce in battle who stand and fight and won't give up soil."

He conceded that abuses by the brigade could hurt the nationalist cause among residents. "If any cases of misbehavior by Azov Brigade are brought by the local population, it will be investigated," he said.

In one case of alleged abuse, shop owner Svetlana Gudina, 51, said Azov troops detained her two sons, ages 28 and 32, and seized their cars, cash, flash drives and documents while searching for separatists last September. The men were released, and she managed to recover the cars and money, but the experience destroyed her trust in Ukrainian authorities.

"If they have come to defend us, let them defend," Gudina said. "But when they come to molest and humiliate civilians, it's wrong."

Spokesman Diachenko said he was unfamiliar with the incident, but "such episodes happen because this is war."

Nozdrachov offered to send an investigator to look into Gudina's claims, an offer she accepted.

Similar incidents have been attributed to armed units on both sides of the war. A report March 5 by the United Nations' High Commissioner for Human Rights described "credible allegations of arbitrary detention, torture and enforced disappearances, committed mostly by the armed groups but in some instances also by the Ukrainian law enforcement agencies."

The brigade's recruits, ranging from teens to middle-aged men, come from the separatist-held eastern Ukrainian cities of Donetsk and Luhansk, the central city of Kirovograd and the former Soviet republic of Belarus. Several said they want to protect their homeland and Europe from the ambitions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom they blame for the war.

Deputy commander Odnorozhenko said the brigade preaches Ukrainian patriotism and independence, strong leadership and accountability. "Ideas like going to Kiev to change the government in an illegal way should be nipped in the bud," he said.

Alex Borisov, 44, a trainer for Ukraine's military, said he spent two weeks teaching shooting and tactics to a group of brigade members who speak mostly Russian.

"I didn't see any fascists or anti-Semites," Borisov said. "And I tell you this as a Jewish guy."

Turkey Seeks to Replace Ukraine as Energy Hub

Russia says it will stop sending natural gas to Europe through Ukraine and will start sending it through Turkey. Turkey welcomes the decision. For ten years the country has aimed to be a major energy hub, or distribution center.

But some critics say Turkey is not prepared to play such a role.

Atilla Yesilada is a senior partner at Global Source Partners, a research group in Turkey. He says Russia's decision is a major opportunity for his country.

"Turkey simply becomes the next Ukraine and Turkey could become a major energy hub that supplies Europe."

But Mr. Yesilada says Turkey has a lot of work to do before that can happen. He says Turkey will need to understand the gas market, know the buyers, predict prices and build places to store natural gas. He says being an energy hub will require a big investment but it may also bring a lot of money and political power.

Volkan Ozdemir is an expert at the Institute for Energy Markets and Policies in Turkey. He agrees with Mr. Yesilada that much work must be done before his country is ready to become an energy hub. He also says Turkey should work to become a place where energy is bought and sold, not just a place through which energy is transported. He says economic sanctions have weakened Russia. He says that means Turkey is in a good position to convince Russia that the two countries should become energy partners.

However, one expert says European countries are not happy that Turkey will be replacing Ukraine as the distribution center for Russia's natural gas shipments.

Sinan Ulgen is a visiting scholar at the Carnegie Institute in Brussels. He says he is not sure that contracts Russia has signed to supply the natural gas through Ukraine can be legally changed.

"Because as things stand these terms stipulate that the gas will be supplied through Ukraine. And these are long-term contracts, so it's an open question whether the terms can be negotiated."

A top official of the huge Russian energy company Gazprom dismissed such concerns in January. Alexei Miller warned that Europe will have to make changes in its energy centers within two years to accept natural gas from Turkey.

Last month, Mr. Miller and Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz spent four hours in a helicopter looking for possible places for a new natural gas supply route.

Turkey is in a strong negotiating position because Russia wants to make the change from Ukraine to Turkey quickly. Gazprom has already reduced the price of natural gas it is selling to Turkey two times. And a major pipeline is being built across Turkey from Azerbaijan to Europe. That pipeline will strengthen Turkey's role as a major supplier of energy to Europe.

Basically every question is -

'do you trust poroshenko?

no

'and putin' ?

'yes'

Best answer was from the girl smoking outside the shop

'do you trust president poroshenko'?

'and who is that'?

In truth, the interesting thing is that this is shown on hromadske.tv, you can see the winds are starting to change slowly but surely regarding poroshenko.

Pretty much everything thats come put of the US government has been a complete joke regarding ukraine right back since yanukovich was threatened with sanctions if he acted against peaceful, defenceless protestors. The clownery from the state department was on the same level as ukraine for a hell of a long time before even they realised kiev was clinically insane and backed off a bit.

US only seems to start twitching every time a ceasefire agreement is hammered out for some reason.

Moscow US embassy cables on WikiLeaks: Russian 5th column advised the US "to isolate Ramzan Kadyrov"

March 10, 2015
Komsomolskaya Pravda
Translated by Kristina Rus
Published November 23, 2014

WikiLeaks published secret telegrams of U.S. Ambassador to Russia, John Beyrle. The American ambassador reported to Washington about his meeting with the Russian "dissidents", about the requests from non-systemic opposition and that an emergency situation is required in order to "overthrow Putin" .

Secret telegrams to Washington

It is not a secret that Russian "dissidents" meet regularly with American politicians. Those particularly close, such as Boris Nemtsov, are called directly to Washington, others, less significant, are invited to the U.S. Embassy in Moscow.

U.S. Ambassador to Russia John Beyrle reports on each such meeting in secret cables. However, in the era of WikiLeaks it is difficult to maintain secrecy. The newspaper "Komsomolskaya Pravda" published excerpts from these cables.

Cable "MOSCOW 000304" talks about the meeting of the Director of the Department for Russia at the National Security Council (NSC) of USA Michael McFaul with Russian human rights activists, which took place on January 14, 2010.

The human rights activists were disappointed with the thaw in relations between the two countries and the reset in Russian-American relations. Lyudmila Alexeyeva from the Moscow Helsinki group advised the Americans to closely monitor what is happening in Moscow, but do it more delicately than the previous US administration: "Increase the intensity, but don't be the second Bush..." - told McFaul Alekseeva.

Another human rights activist, Yuri Dzhibladze from the Center for Human Rights and Democracy, also asked to increase the degree of interference in Russian affairs and even offered to influence Moscow with some "concessions". "Dzhibladze believes that the U.S. should strengthen their criticism... to show that human rights issues occupy a prominent place in the agenda of bilateral relations... As a Russian partner the USA has the right to demand reforms in exchange for trade or other concessions", - says the cable of John Beyrle.

The editor of the Internet site "Caucasian Knot" Grigory Shvedov asked Americans "to work more closely with NGOs, not limited to just financial support." And Lev Ponomarev from the organization "For Human Rights" and Lyudmila Alekseeva advised US to isolate the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, and to establish relations with leaders of other North Caucasian republics of Russia.

U.S. Ambassador framed the "dissidents"

The following cable "MOSCOW 000305" from January 19, 2010 talks about the new meeting of McFaul with the Russian opposition. With his report to Washington John Beyrle unwittingly exposed Boris Nemtsov and Vladimir Milov from the movement "Solidarity", Gregory Bovt from "The Right Cause" party, and Vladimir Ryzhkov, a former head of the Republican party.

"...They agreed that the purpose of the political opposition in the next two years should be to work to prevent the return of Putin to the presidency. But, according to their opinion, and considering the control of Putin over society, his overthrow can only be caused by some kind of emergency situation. Bovt said that civil society in Russia at the present time is asleep and will unlikely actively oppose the current regime," - quoted the words of his guests the US ambassador.

By the way, after the content of these cables was disclosed, Boris Nemtsov said in his interview to "Voice of America" that his words in the Byerly's cables are quoted correctly.

This is how the "dissidents" explained to the Americans, what needs to be done in order to shake the authority of Vladimir Putin. Need an emergency, disaster, global upheaval. Otherwise, the non-systemic opposition in Russia has not the slightest chance. This is even recognized by Ryzhkov himself. "According to him, the majority of Russian citizens are content with the current situation," - said the secret cable.

However, American diplomats, apparently, are not going to do the work for "dissidents". Otherwise, why is the US funding numerous NGOs and human rights defenders?

"Deputinisation" must come from Russia itself... Although the American President is not speaking openly in support of the civil society in Russia, as the members of opposition would like ... he fully supports democratic reforms," - lectured McFaul.

It should be noted that WikiLeaks has published reports only about several of the meetings of the dissidents with the Americans. Presumably, we'll find out soon, how many more of such visits took place and who else attended them. And the Russian opposition activists should ponder about what other compromising things they said behind the walls of the American Embassy, that Byerly could report to Washington, and what will now become public knowledge.

Kristina Rus:

There are two key links here to the murder of Nemtsov: "the need to isolate Kadyrov" (a pillar of peace in Chechnya and Putin's closest supporter) and "Caucasian Knot" being connected to the US (likely funded by the US, Caucasus being a key region of Russia, which is of interest to the US)

It is the "Caucasian Knot", which broke the story about Nemtsov killers having a link to Kadyrov, and announced that there is no foreign trail!

Nemtsov in a "Caucasian Knot"': chechens, drugs, ISIS, Batman and Kolomoisky - Fort Russ :

March 7, 2015
По делу об убийстве Немцова задержаны боец батальона «Север» и охранник :: Политика :: РосБизнесКонсалтинг

The acting secretary of the Security Council of Ingushetia, Albert Barahoev first informed the "Caucasian knot" what Dadaev and Gubashev were engaged in.

Z. Dadaev - is an active employee of the Chechen Interior Ministry, worked in senior positions. Until recently lived in Grozny in the barracks.

Later Barahoev explained to RIA Novosti that Dadaev is the deputy commander of the regiment battalion "North" of the Interior Ministry of the Chechen Republic.

...

"If the information of the sources of the "Caucasian knot" that one of the suspects was serving in the Chechen battalion "North" is confirmed, it will prove one thing: the suspects are associated with customers [likely intermediaries - KR], who, in turn, are connected with Chechnya. And the theory of a foreign trail, voiced by one of the agencies, is wrong. Our information shows the failure of the theory about a foreign trail and that customers of the assassination of Boris Nemtsov, live outside of Russia," told RBC the chief editor of the website "Caucasian knot," Grigory Shvedov.

KR: Here we see Americans took the advice of establishing connections with other Caucasian leaders, in this case Ingushetia, and used their own media outlet, "Caucasian Knot", "to bury the foreign trail", while framing Kadyrov.
Shots fired at Nemtsov were shots fired at Kadyrov's authority and at stability in Chechnya

March 10, 2015
Kristina Rus

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFEdf4ARqJk

When we gather the facts around Nemtsov's murder we should not loose sight of facts which occurred AFTER the murder, or - its consequences and results. The fact is, whether intended or not, shots fired at Nemtsov were also shots fired at Kadyrov's authority and hence at Putin-Kadyrov vertical of power and stability in Chechnya. Therefore we must ask ourselves if such a result was in fact - the purpose of Nemtsov's murder.

In the video above the 5th column Russian TV channel "Dozhd" ("Rain" - the bullhorn of Russian non-systemic opposition) invited the editor of the 5th column Caucasus media outlet "Caucasian Knot", Grigory Shvedov.

Earlier Fort Russ posted a reference to Wikileaks cables exposing Grigory Shvedov advising Michael McFaul at the US embassy in Moscow on how should Americans most effectively interfere in Russian affairs.

The same cables revealed that another Russian opposition representative suggested that US should attempt to isolate Ramzan Kadyrov.

It is reasonable to argue that the relationship between the "Caucasian Knot" and the US State Department may not be purely platonic, but financial as well.

It was the "Caucasian Knot" which broke the story in Russia about Nemtsov's killer being connected to Ramzan Kadyrov, having previously served in the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Chechnya. It was also the "Caucasian Knot", which announced to the Russians that the theory of a foreign trail is wrong. And pointed them in the direction of Kadyrov's trail instead.

Next the editor of "Caucasian Knot" goes on "a media tour" and reports on mission accomplished: Kadyrov's authority has been shaken.

Grigory Shvedov on "Dozhd":

- Putin's award of Kadyrov is a signal to those Chechen elites who have begun to worry

- Some Chechen elites are ready to look for other centers of power

- All the big accomplishments in Chechnya in the fight with Chechen militants (although made with human rights violations) have not been achieved thanks to Kadyrov [!!!]

- Kadyrov's image is a manufactured brand

- Chechnya is de facto independent from Russian authority (as far as the level of Kadyrov's power)

- Chechen elites feel that the capture of Zaur Dadaev, Nemtsov's killer, is a strike directly at Kadyrov. They begin to question whether Kadyrov can defend their interests.

- The vertical of power in Chechnya began to vibrate from the bottom and may fall apart at the top

- There is a duality in Chechen public opinion. Kadyrov is popular on the surface, but the same people may secretly wish his demise

- Kadyrov's security officials are nervous that Kadyrov cannot defend them from Russian authorities

- The killer used to serve in "Sever" battalion in the name of Akhmat Kadyrov, where the term "kadyrovtsi" (the private guard of Kadyrov) was born.

[Couldn't get any closer to Kadyrov, if one wanted to frame him]

- "Charlie Hebdo" (religious motive) is just a cover

- There could be a conflict between "some of the Kremlin towers"

- The targets [Nemtsov] were established by propaganda (such concepts as "5th column", "Anti-maidan")

Is it Kremlin propaganda that forced Grigory Shvedov and Boris Nemtsov to run to the American Embassy and ponder on how to topple the Russian government?

The host from "Dozhd" aslo asked a question about who could replace Ramzan Kadyrov, to which Shvedov replied that no one is as big as Kadyrov, and it could be someone not widely known.

Putin and Kadyrov are frequently accused by their opponents that Kadyrov is running a "mini-khalifate" in Chechnya, that Russian laws don't function on it's territory and that Russia should assert more local control. At the same time such an arrangement is a guarantee of peace and stability in such a highly traditional culture as Chechnya, which is fundamentally different from the Russian society with its sometimes ruthless practices. We should not loose sight of the point that the more Russia would attempt to strengthen control over Chechnya and make it more "Russian," the greater the backlash it will get, shaking the fragile balance of power in the republic.

In a way, the more "Chechen" Chechnya is allowed to be, the greater the likelihood, that it will remain inside Russia's borders.

Dear @Akim, once you get bored watching "Дождь," please spare some time and see this video. The people of eastern Ukraine don't like the Kiev regime, and its terrorists.

BTW, @AVERAGE INDIAN, that name "rvborgh" sounds like "Cyborg" or "Киборг," which reversed becomes "Гробик," which means something. What does it mean? That @Akim can tell us. I think @Razor might know the answer.
