The Russian Air Force will adopt the S-500 & Vityaz, surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems in the near future, vice-premier Dmitry Rogozin said in a statement on the occasion of the Russian Air Force's centennial celebration on 12 August 2012.
Russian Air Force to receive S-500 and Vityaz SAM systems
Russia's Armed Forces could receive the first of its next-generation S-500 air defense missile systems as early as in 2013, Air Force commander Maj.Gen. Viktor Bondarev said on Wednesday.
"I think that as soon as next year we will get the first of these (S-500) systems in service," Bondarev said at a RIA Novosti press conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Russian Air Force.
This is too good system S 500,
The S-500 is a new generation surface-to-air missile system, designed for intercepting intercontinental ballistic missiles and for defense against Airborne Early Warning and Control, Airborne Warning and Control System, and jamming aircraft.
It is not an upgraded version of the S-400.
With a planned range of 600 km (373 mi), the S-500 would be able to detect and simultaneously engage up to 10 ballistic supersonic targets flying at a speed of 5 km/s and will have a flight ceiling of 40 km.
The Vityaz :
Another system, the Vityaz, is a further development of the S-300 medium-range air defense system, whose combat capabilities largely surpass those of its predecessor.
The Vityaz is expected to replace the outdated S-300PS systems, whose service life is coming to an end in the next two years.
The Vityaz will complement the Morfey, the S-400 and the S-500 air defense systems in the future aerospace defense network to engage targets at ranges from five to 400 kilometers, and at altitudes from five meters to near space.
The Morfey :
The Morfey is a short-range air defense system with effective range of five kilometers. It is designed to protect military installations and has both active and passive weapons [launchers and radars].
