Former West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi today dubbed Reliance Industries as a "parallel state" that exercised power "brazenly" over natural and financial resources.

"We used to talk of blackmoney as a parallel economy and so it continues to be. But Reliance is a parallel State. I do not know of any country where one single firm exercises such power so brazenly, over the natural resources, financial resources, professional resources and, ultimately, over human resources as the company of the Ambanis.

"From (B R) Ambedkar who spoke of economic democracy to Ambani who represents a techno-commercial monopoly of unprecedented scale, is a far cry indeed," he said delivering the 15th D P Kohli Memorial lecture organised to mark the year-long golden jubilee celebrations of the CBI.

Talking about the economic health of the country, Gandhi said the economy had seen some phenomenal successes with many homeless getting houses and other items of necessity.

"Our economy is startling if you do not want to see its other side. If you see that side, you will see it is schizophrenic. Corporate greed has crossed all bounds, as has corporate tastelessness," he said.

Holding that money was affecting democracy, he said, "Our democracy is large, vibrant, but is also deeply flawed.Size and scale cannot and do not in themselves validate a democracy. There is something called quality also.

"The monarch, the voter, is powerful but his power is constantly subverted by blandishment. Money is at our democracy's throat. Money can and does do worse," Gandhi said at the function where CBI rank and file led by its Director Ranjit Sinha were present.

I didn't know you were pro-oligarchy.
I do not have any issue with Indian companies becoming powerful & allowing "secular" distribution/churning of wealth. Especially, when they provide us "energy security".

Monopoly is something that is against this spirit. Like, defence PSU's having complete monopoly over arms-production & shipbuilding. Hope, we get some Reliance's in defence sector who can create world-class manufacturing plants (which only Reliance does) & reliable, cost-effective products unlike the OFB.

Privatizing OFB, HAL, MDL, CSL, GRSL etc. is the way forward.

One question what Mr Gopalkrishna Gandhi has done to check the power of Reliance Industries while he was in services...

Ambani havent amassed powers in one day and it must be work in pogress for many days

What did Mr Gopalkrishna Gandhi durning these days.....????? did he carried out work which proved reliance is amassing power too much and they must be kept in check Or he remained silent like most IAS does...

If he didn`t in his working days then why now lemeting that Reliance has amassed much powerfull....

Such is stupidity of this learned IAS people...

And always ambanis are enjoying , seating, having  and enjoying free entertainment

You are advocating for intrinsic corporate morality/responsibility/self-policing in a greedy environment. This model is as flawed as communism.

We need greed-proof/resistant not greed-free systems to quote Taleb.

If you value your career you don't speak out. There is no whistleblower protection act. Something which AAP is fighting for.

So it imply that those who in past carried out investigation against likes of reliance get eliminated.....

Although i donot know their name but in past some one from services must have taken on reliance and yes without whistleblower protection act

We still donot have whistleblower protection act but still their poeple services who regulary taken on likes of relaince....

So it dose depend upon kind of people in services and not on some kind of act....

And so u rightly said it you value your career.i like to add if u value your life....

I say Mr Gopalkrishna Gandhi valued both

Gopalkrishna and his brother are Gandhi's grandsons.

In this deifying nation in which we live, I think that should suffice to state that what they say must be given due reverential treatment!

You don't screw with Reliance. Ever. Unless you are a fool called Kejriwal.

Please to read Gas Wars GAS WARS: CRONY CAPITALISM AND THE AMBANIS eBook: Paranjoy Guha Thakurta: Amazon.in: Kindle Store

Abki Baar Fir Ambani Ki Sarkar
So Why Mr Gopalkrishna Gandhi is raking issue now .

And AKJ isnt fooled .FIR launched by delhi police doent names mukes ambani

Is its easy that u cry on TV that we took on reliance while in actually truth is something different.....

Better to have ambani sarkar rather then nut heads who changes decision based on mobile votes
