Gujrat has shown the way?

Gujrat contributes to barely 6.2% of total FDI in India. Maharashtra is ahead of everyone in attracting investments with whooping 35% of total FDI in this country. Even NCR is ahead with 14.2%.

Gujrat has miles to go in improving its FDI. It can start learning from Maharashtra & Delhi. Maybe DMIC, a union govt scheme can help them.

:bored:

Don't trust Wikipedia for statistics. They are not always true. Refer this RBI link for any or all info. Tremendous info here -

Maharashtra gets Rs18,500crore boost to regain industrial glory

Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan has embarked on mission Maharashtra through an ambitious Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project worth Rs18,500 crore.

The project will be a joint venture of the Centre and the state. Adopting the public-private partnership model, the project will give a major boost to Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Raigad, Nashik, Aurangabad, Ahmednagar, Dhule and Nandurbar.

The DMIC has plans to upgrade two-tier cities in the state and give it an overall growth.

While Nashik and Dhule will become the new industrial centres of state, Dighi will have international status port and Pune a world-class cargo hub.

The Dighi port and Shendra (Aurangabad) will emerge as industrial townships complete with world-class infrastructure. The DMIC project was approved at a meeting between Chavan and Union commerce minister Anand Sharma. The top bureaucracy of the state and the Centre was present in the meeting.

"We will construct a world-class industrial township in Dighi and Aurangabad in the first phase of the DMIC project. The projects will start immediately will be completed in 2019," said Chavan.
Two major power projects will also be undertaken with the projects to meet the demand and supply which will rise with the industrial growth.

The development in Shendra (Aurangabad) will require Rs2,790 crore for industrial development and Dighi international port and infrastructure development will require Rs5,967 crore.

The Shendra township will cover 8,340 hectares and Dighi port will take up 25,000 hectares. Roads, drinking water, power, schools, hospitals, market centres, gardens, sewerage, storm water drainage will be built.

The state-Centre joint project will be one of the biggest in Asian countries. The state chief secretary will monitor the project's progress to ensure it meets the deadline.

The chief minister said the DMIC is part of the national development policy with a specific objective to attract major investments and growth in manufacturing sector. Apart from restoring the leading industrial status of Maharashtra, the project will also spill over its benefits to six states passing through the corridors. It will generate employment opportunities to 225 million people in the country.

2 townships to come up in Maharashtra

In a boost to the sagging infrastructure scene in the state, the commerce and industry ministry and the Maharashtra government on Thursday announced construction of two integrated industrial townships at a cost of Rs 8,700 crore over the next seven years.

The twin townships at Dighi in Raigad district and at Shendra Bidkin in Aurangabad will come up as the National Manufacturing Investment Zones (NMIZs) as proposed under the National Manufacturing Policy announced last year, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said. Both the projects are aligned to the ambitious Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). The Shendra project will require an investment of Rs 2,790 crore and the Dighi project will need Rs 5,967 crore, he said.

Sharma and Chavan held a meeting with top officials from the industrial departments on Thursday where details about the projects were discussed.
Conceding that the earlier attempts by the state, which used to attract the maximum industrial growth and investment, notably the MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation) townships have been developed in a "haphazard" manner, Chavan stressed that these will be well planned hubs which will be better and will be set up even before the industry moves in.

One of the state's first private sector ports is being developed at Dighi while Aurangabad is also fast developing into a major industrial belt and already houses auto majors like Skoda.

Chavan said as part of the work around DMIC, it was also decided to have two electricity plants of 1,000 Mw each at Raigad and Pune districts, a multi-modal logistics hub at Talegaon near Pune and an exhibition centre at Aurangabad.

The Centre and state have also decided to form an equal joint venture for the implementation of the projects and it was also decided to form a committee headed by the Maharashtra chief secretary to monitor the progress on the projects on a regular basis, Chavan said.

The Dighi township will require a total of 25,000 hectares, while the one at Shendra will need 8,340 hectares, according to a presentation made during the meeting. In spite of the troubles faced by the industry on the land acquisition front, which has also led some to abandon their plans of setting shop, Chavan sounded confident of meeting the land requirements for the twin projects and added that the acquisition has already begun in the case of Dighi.

Cisco selected by Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Co for smart city project

The Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Company (DMICDC) has selected Cisco S+CC Advisory Services to develop the ICT master plan for two pilot cities in the $90 billion infrastructure project.

The entire scope of the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) will consist of 24 cities in total, spanning six states in India. The DMIC's key focus is to create a global manufacturing and trading hub through smart and socially inclusive cities that take advantage of world-class digital infrastructure.

"The ability for cities to use technology to transform the way their citizens consume services is a powerful concept and one that appeals to visionary leaders around the world. We have developed a services catalogue of more than 100 services that can be used to generate new revenue streams for service providers and cities around the world," said Wim Elfrink, executive vice president, Emerging Solutions and chief globalisation officer of Cisco.

The city of Guayaquil in Ecuador has also adopted Cisco Emerging Solutions Advisory Services to develop a scalable ICT master plan for its Digital Guayaquil project.

With a metropolitan population of 2.5 million, Guayaquil is aiming to improve the quality of life for citizens by using the network to offer municipality services such as healthcare, education and e-government. As an important hub for tourists traveling to the Galapagos Island, the city also intends to address safety and security by implementing a unified command and control center.

Cisco's Emerging Solutions Advisory Services have already played a key role in the development of master-planning ICT blueprints for the following select developments around the globe. This service offering, which is increasingly being adopted as an industry best practice, provides guidance and consultation encompassing project management, market and service analysis, operating and financial model definition, and feasibility analysis.

Rampart's Avenir Communities in Edmonton, Canada, is using Cisco S+CC Advisory Services to help deliver a new, sustainable and high-tech C$1.8 billion development for 10,000 residents and commercial enterprises to transform the way they work and live through the use of technology-enabled Smart Services and Solutions.

India to set up 7 large manufacturing centres

The Indian government is in the process of building seven large manufacturing hubs in the country and is considering a proposal to construct five more, said Talleen Kumar, joint secretary at the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion.

The federal government is also in talks with state governments of Gujarat and Maharashtra to set up special purpose vehicles for constructing industrial townships under the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, Kumar told reporters on the sidelines of a CII Manufacturing Summit.

So the people in eastern poor states of India like Bihar, MP, UP are right in complaining about the step-motherly treatment by the Central government.
Why is the centre doing nothing to develop economies of these states? Because they fall in Hindi belt and they will never revolt? People in these areas will benefit and later chase out the migrants from other regions calling them thieves, criminals, terrorists, uncivilized and what not, like it happened in Maharastra.

This is only going to make those rich who are already in a good economic position. The states which have lost the race are not going to benefit. I was specifically talking about the states in the Hindi belt, Bihar, MP, UP which seem to be benefiting from India's growth story. These states matter because they are homes to significant %ge of Indian nationals, whose socio-economic interest is being ignored.

Projects like these take huge amounts of land. Land acquisition will be a bigger problem in states like UP, Bihar and WB when compared to Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra. Dont you think so?

Maybe they could have tried Mumbai-Chennai corridor for the first time instead? :taunt:

Kalinga Nagar, Bolangir identified as probable manufacturing hubs

Orissa has identified the Kalinga Nagar industrial cluster in Jajpur district and Bolangir in the economically backward KBK (Kalahandi, Bolangir and Koraput) region as probable locations for development of National Manufacturing and Investment Zone (NMIZ) envisaged under the National Manufacturing Policy of Government of India (GoI).

The proposed NMIZ needs to be developed on a contiguous patch of 5000 hectares of land as mandated by the policy.

"We have already completed two rounds of negotiations with all the stakeholders for development of NMIZ in the state. Some locations have been identified but we are yet to zero in on any site for developing the zone. The final call will be taken by the Chief Secretary and thereafter we will be submitting a detailed proposal to GoI", said an official source.

Land acquisition, however, remains a big hurdle for the development of NMIZ.

"Takeover of around 5000 hectares of contiguous land is never going to be easy especially at a time when big ticket investments like Posco have been battling for land acquisition for more than six years. Still, we are making the best efforts", said the official.

The NMIZs would be managed by a special purpose vehicle, headed by a government official and having experts, including those on environment. The industrial townships will be self-governing and autonomous bodies.

In the first phase, a NIMZ will be set up along the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor and is expected to come on stream in the next few years.

The DMIC project covers six states including Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat, which account for 43 per cent of the country's GDP, 50 per of industrial production and exports and 40 per cent of total workforce. The government estimates that the project will offer employment to over three million people.

The NMIZs would be a combination of production units, public utilities, logistics, environmental protection mechanism, residential areas and administrative services.

It would have a processing area where the manufacturing facilities along with associated logistics and other services as well as required infrastructure will be located.

The processing area may include one or more Special Economic Zones (SEZs), industrial parks and warehousing zones and export oriented units.

Besides, there will be a non-processing area to include residential, commercial and other social and institutional infrastructure.

Why no such thing in the South ?
Investors are going to prefer places where industrial environment is favorable or rather has better record of performance as it will help them easily execute operations. DMIC states are leading states as far as national contribution is concerned.

The DMIC project covers six states including Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat, which account for 43 per cent of the country's GDP, 50 per of industrial production and exports and 40 per cent of total workforce.
The geographical proximity of these states from each other also adds an advantage to maintain synergy.

Having said that, it should not discourage government (state and centre) to initiate big ticket projects in remaining states and invite global investors to establish confidence about opportunity in relatively backward states. Maybe once DMIC clocks success, it will encourage govt to start more projects on the same line. Most crucial part is bringing in investors, even entire DMIC project is not funded by GOI/state govts alone.

Agreed that part contributes to the nation.

Do you think that south India is sucking big timee. Do you know how many industries thrive in the Chennai-Banglore highway ?
Do you know Chennai is the biggest automobile manufacturer in India?
Do you have any idea how many critical components are made in the south?

So record of performance there has been $hit according to you ???????
