6th July 2009, 06:30 HRS :: BREIFING ROOM - UDHAMPUR AIR FORCE BASE

It was pretty early in the morning that Three Commando Colonels, Two Majors and Two Captains were glued to Giant Screen In front of them. They were carefully listening to the Col. Somnath Puri with two gentlemen from Air Force waiting for their turn.

A Smart Lady Figure in uniform was also present whom Col. Puri Had introduced as Maj. Shyna Tripathi.

“Gentle Men ... Giving More broader overview of Operation – Vidhyut … Special Ops Team from Army and Air force will be striking the entire terror Machinery of POK”.

“This would be First Operation of its own kind which will see quite significant number of Aircrafts and Men on Ground Pounding the targets with in a very small time frame in order to carry out maximum damage to enemy”.

“No Need to Tell That Key To success is … SURPRISE”… Col. insisted.

“Maximum No of Targets would be blown away by our boys from Air force, But Few Of The camps which according to our confirmed Intel are stationing high to very high value targets would be taken care by our boys on land which include you .” … Col. was relentlessly speaking

“Our Satellite and UAV Intel in past few days has shown us unprecedented level of security cover on these three camps that include, High Number of guards , heavy armor to Sam batteries guarding there perimeter . We Believe that there camps have underground dugouts too to host there guest well against any kind of contingency…” Col. Explained while Zooming in the image on Screen

“Does That Mean Pakistanis fear attacks on these camps already ….” Col. Siddarth Questioned?

“No I am sure that they don't know that we are coming We do believe that they will be prepared to meet any kind of situation and that we might see few heavy A$# names there like Al – Zaveri, Innayat Khan and so on ….which have been moved there recently.”

“Our Intel Believe that These terrorists are going to host a 26/11 type of attack on number of Indian cities in very short time. But I had this un-canny feeling that Involvement of this barge of Pakistani regulars and Special Forces ranks it is not going to be merely a terrorist attack….”
“Well this is purely my personal feeling as if now ….”

“Moving on to our part of job. Col Bir ….You and your boys will take care of Amina , Col. Siddarth and his team will take care of Bathhika and Col. Sorabji along with his boys will blow Muaskar-e-Aska ”

“As planned when our boys in air will commence the attack on their targets… You and Your boys will be making final kill on your targets. Although we have specific orders to catch any of the prized names alive, It is up to you to carry that dirty bag home or not …”…Col Puri Words Brought Smile On everybody‘s face in the room.

“You will be introduced to your respective men and will get your respective Maps, Photographs and equipment and anything you need for this mission by my fellow officer Maj. Shyna “

Captain Shergill was the one who was happiest most after he heard this from Col. Puri.

“After our air boys have shook them from above. You will finish the jobs on ground …”Col. Puri continued

“These three camps are in vicinity of 14 Kms. You will have four Hours before the Air Strikes to secure the perimeter and launch a parallel attack on three camps. And your rescue will appear right after half an hour after the air strikes at designated coordinates. So ... Gentlemen It has to be sharp and swift”

“I will like to add that there Is No Back Up ...So we are counting on you the best of Indian Army …. To finish the job and finish it well”… He said while turning on to Wg. Commander Dutta.

It was turn of Commander Dutta to explain his part of role … “You will be dropped to drop zone – zebra at 23:30 Hours designated date and you approach to Rescue –Tango Coordinates - 0-1-x-y-t-t-y at 00:04 Hours designated date. “

“Although you will one Mi-35 Gunship under Sqn. Leader Amin as your Air Support”
“We will Meet you at “drop wagon” 22:30 Hours Designated Date.”... Wg. Commander Concluded

“Any Questions …..” Col. Puri Asked.?

“So Ok ... Gentlemen … Meet your team and have your equipment with Maj. Tripathi… we will celebrate once you return”… Col. Puri Said smilingly and in his heart he prayed that every body do return home safely….

6 july 10:30 HRS MUMBAI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
INDIAN HOME MINISTER LEAVES FOR ISRAEL ON A SECRET MEETING ALONG WITH SECURITY ADVISOR AND TOP BRASS DEFENCE TEAM

India security advisor with three IB and 2 RAW officers in a room with Mossad chief and 5 top secret agents (one of the agent was in pakistan air force as engine fitter for 7 years while other is working currently in pakistan missile inventry).................

00: 30 HRS July 6th:: INDIAN AIR FORCE BASE JODHPUR


It would be a busy night for Sam Mathew and he knew it. He had quickly called for briefing as soon his jeep landed at base.

He did not have to wait for little more then few minutes before he was going to answer curious eyes of his pilots.

“People what do I have I my hand is …. Our fate with glory..” He waived the packet with “TOP SECRET ”while narrating to his fellow officers.

“ Lightings will get their chance to blitz the enemy for real…” he went ecstatic.

“We have been assigned the critical task of bombing Pakistani terror camps some 40 odd hours from now.”

There was a big cheer in the room.

“Arjun, Prakshit, Ali,kuldepp, Ravendram … You will be flying to Srinagar Air Force Base 06:00 Hours today …”

“You will get necessary Intel and all the mission details there ”.. Sam was speaking continuously.

“Abrahm, Mukesh and Sunny… You will Air borne exactly after six hours these boys are off to srinagar … You will be establishing link with Flight sierra- acko-niner {IAF PHALCON} and would be providing the escort to them ”

“Any Questions.” Group Captain Emphasized?

“Would It be Pakistani Terror camps only.. Or … ” Sqn. Leader Arjun Asked?

“No … We are under strict orders not to touch any Pakistani military installation in area. …”.

“But Any how … You are free to clear SAM threats and can engage any Hostile aircraft .. That does jeopardize the mission”

“Your task will be to drop the payload and return home ASAP”

“Gentlemen … You are India ‘s Best … Let The Lighting strike.. And strike hard on those who dare to challenge us..” Group Captain Concluded.

0630 HRS :: USS GEORGE WASHINGTON – SOME WHERE IN WATERS OF PERSIAN GULF.

Vice Admiral John.D. Bird – Commander of Battle group “Invincible ”was waken up pretty early by his crew.

“Sir … You need to Look at this..” said Admiral 's first officer

In 20 Minutes .. Admiral was in Communication Control room of the massive Air craft carrier .

“Sir … In past few hours an Indian flotilla of 1 destroyer and 2 Frigates has left from Mumbai shores to join there aircraft carrier …. Another destroyer is altering it’s route to meet the ships…” Communication Officer Albert smith started explaining the things

“We also have every reason to believe that one or two Kilo Class submarines are also en-route to join the formation as Battle group ” .. He continued

“The route as visible …” He pointed towards the computer generated imagery on giant screen ahead.” Is very close to Pakistani territorial boundary of Karachi …… Pakistani sea life line …” He concluded .

“Indians are up to something here …..” Admiral whispered .

“Inform Washington at once, divert pentagon to have a satellite fix on Indian army activities along there border with Pakistan and Keep Monitoring the Naval Task force …”

“We might have to cut short our Arab party .. now “ … Commander was a little anxious

6th July 2009, 10:00 HRS:: CAPTAIN’S CABIN INS VIRAT

“Captain Vishwas Reporting to Duty Sir…” Captain Saluted Rear Admiral Sharma as soon he entered the room.

“Good Morning Captain ….” Admiral Sharma responded ...”Meet Captain Surender chowdary Commander INS Mysore, Captain Surjeet Singh … Commanding Officer INS Tabar, Captain Kartik Iyer … CO INS Talwar …” He introduced Captain Vishwas to all other gentlemen present in the room already .

After all them settled after the formal handshake … Admiral wasted no time and was right on money ….”Gentlemen … In Few Hours from now our boys will launch a coordinated attack against Pakistan terror machinery ….”

It was a pleasant surprise for all the CO’s present there.

“Given the history between two countries …. Our Political leadership feels that there is very high possibility that the escalation will be several levels higher”…. Admiral was continuously speaking

“We will be soon establishing contact with INS Sindhurakshak and INS Sindhushastra ”

“We are navy’s best and of course it is us who will be the first and last line of defenses on waters for our country”.

“Our task is cut out here … with us closing to territorial waters boundary of Pakistan. I don’t believe that it will late before our position is disclosed to PN or as we talk perhaps they would have already been made aware of our position by Americans…..” Admiral explained”

“Gentlemen … As soon as we reach point ‘dolphin’ “…. Admiral pointed his laser pointer on the navigational map. “..We will maintain a position of high alertness and will commence ASW heli patrols around the perimeter “... He Continued.

“You will be in continuous touch with flight acko-charlie that of “bears” who are on ASW patrol already from Cochin.”

“As you are aware the major threat comes from Pakistani Subs. Acc. To our latest satellite Intel. Third one of PN’s Agosta Class is harbored .while we assume that rests two are in water. … You better be aware of these two submarines.”

“Gentlemen we will have our support from IAF Sukhoi’s from Jamnagar Airbase”
“plus …Harriers of My Ship will also periodically patrol there perimeter to look out for PN Orion’s …” He emphasized.

“Our Primary Task is cease entry in and out of Karachi Port once Operation “Vidhyut” Commence” ...Any ship not obeying our orders will found earth. Our Secondary task is to take out any hostile vessel whether in air, on water or in water …” Admiral Insisted

“But we will not fire first…. Rules Of engagement are clear... We have clear orders to destroy Pakistani Terror Machinery Only …. If anybody’s is to up the ante it is to be the Pakistanis. If they do we will oblize gratefully”… There was venom in Admiral’s eyes.

“Any Questions …..” Admiral Asked.

When no one asked anything. He concluded …”Ok Gentlemen … Then emulate war like drills with your crew as soon as you leave the room. This is the only time you get for acclimatization … God speed Gentlemen … May the success be all yours ..” Admiral wished and ended the briefing

6th July 09:30 HRS :: HINDON AIRFORCE BASE

Sqn. Leader Yusuf was ecstatic man. He still could not believe what he heard last night. He remembered word by word what his CO told him in the briefing.

He along with his fellow pilots were assigned task of escort-interception missions in Operation Vidhyut.

He was getting ready to move to Pathankot Air force base, His new Home during the mission.
He was thinking in his mind – ‘Mig 29 being an excellent aircraft was not living to it’s fame it deserved. Due to some unskilled pilots manning the aircraft it had not ben able to down a single F-16 till now in the combats world has seen till Now. But it is different when it comes to Indian Air force… we are not serbs ….”

He was already getting goose bumps in his wish to meet PAF F-16’s in Dog Fight In blue skies .
“Inshahallah… I would be First Fulcrum Pilot to down a F-16 In combat …” He Murmured.

“Yes …You would be …” His Wingman Dinesh Shah said smilingly.

They hugged each other and got busy with the preparations.

It was about time when Operation “Vidhyut” was going to unleash Indian Armed Forces on Land, Air and Waters of Pakistan.

chandra, all that you have pointed out would lead to some unusual level of activity on india's end which would lead to a sense to alert at the pakistanis end. considering this, would also like to see the pakistani reaction and preparation if any and even if this operation remains a surprise till the very last , it would be good if we get a sense as to what their higher ups think, strategise and what is the kind of activity in those terror camps, if this is not considered diverting from the flow of the thread.

If we consider the cold start doctrine, it is possible to hide substantial military movement as its devised to provide that element of surprise.
As already mentioned, naval movement has already been picked up by the Americans and possibly Pakistan as well.

Any movement of aircraft within the country is difficult to pick, so yes there can be a complete surprise attack.

My apologies for butting in, however, given the thaw in our relations with the Paks and the notoriously advertised "low threshold" of their nuclear forces, don't you think that our commanders wouldn't get into any pre-emptive action without extensively planning for an "all out" contingency?

Here lies the danger -

Party A plans for a surgical strike behind enemy lines, with the rules of engagement warranting avoiding vital enemy military installation, BUT without doing substantial groundwork in case the escalation matrix gets blown out.
Party B miscalculates the dimensions of the strike and launches offensives in multiple fronts leading to full blown confrontation.
Party A is caught with its pants down and retaliates by throwing in everything in their arsenal, including the kitchen sink.

With All Due Respect. Ritesh .. As far as my story is concerned .. This build up was my plan .
What you are pointing is if i am reading it correctly i should only direct my writing towards terror camps .

Well taking leaf from history any discussions that talking of a preemptive strike on pakistani soil. {I am talking of real time here }. Indian military commanders would always have discussed about a full scale war, rather then attacking those camps because we will crossing borders. and rest assured pakistan will respond

Now If I don't put a naval task force on alert, Keep My air assets ready and keep my boys on ground beef up there defense lines {which i had not written yet } .I am afraid i would be a sitting duck.

My Primary goal would always be to destroy pakistani terror machinery , You have to be answerable to international community also else your military supplies will be cut off . {we still use 90% of our equipment that is very much foreign } .

But ths situation will be only till pakistan declares war on us and then our already alert military machinery will just execute the plan .

and to keep pakistani navy at bay i guess you will require some ships which i have mentioned considering the fact they do have a very good Submarine capability and ASW air wing.

And this big flotilla can not go unnoticed esp with Americans and they will inform Pakistani's even if they are mute spectators in the war .

but considering the fact that even if Pakistan comes to know that our task force is in position . the best they can do is to call urgent meeting of commanders and draft a plan and we will commence the attack even if there ships leave harbor in the quickest of time

and as yusuf pointed out . they can never know what our plan is till the last moment by just judging the moments of our ships .

Pakistani offensive capability is well known to Indians and trust me i had try to keep every thing mind before drafting the story line .

It is my first effort to write a scenario and inputs like yours are really helping me alot .
