Qianzhan.com said in its report yesterday: China has to put an end to its old practice of following others countries' footsteps.

Sources say that through meticulous engineering and mechanical analysis, China will conduct research and development of the first 180,000-ton :shocked: double hull aircraft carrier in the world.

If successful, it will be a movable Chinese territory with maritime hegemony.

It will have a huge capacity, capable of carrying 125 J-20 fighter jets enough to destroy any existing aircraft carrier in the world.

Sources say that China conducts research into a 180,000-ton double hull aircraft carrier because compared with a monohull aircraft carrier, it has exceptional advantages.

A double hull carrier may have two identical runways for simultaneous taking off and landing.

In addition the diagonal runway on the existing Nimitz-class aircraft carrier is too short to be free of the risk of crash.

I think the design should be called a catamaran hulled air-craft carrier.

The news may or may not be authentic but does does give us the opportunity to discuss the advantage and disadvantage of catamaran hulled( double hulled as in the article) air-craft carrier. Also pro and cons of having a carrier which displaces 180,000 tonnes.
@Decklander if you could please briefly mention the salient points of this kind of design.

Such an aircraft carrier can be built but it will have huge problems in operations. I had once suggested here a similar design but with three hulls, one main and two smaller hulls togive it additional support for two runway operation. My Idea was to house all the main machinary within the main hull and the two side hulls for stability augmentation and space for hangers and ac.

A carrier cost 10 billion which can be destroyed by an investment of a few million
Carrier killing missiles, not to mention billions in planes and weaponry along with it.

a machine of such size is very difficult to steer and its not agile.
until and unless chinese release any prototype information its difficult to comment on this.

recent generations of war machines heavily rely on stealth for its advantage.even usa announced next generation AC with each one costing 13 billion usd.just by doubling the size of an ac they cant make a world class ship,its another bully with potential weaknesses

That's a very stupid decision. I thought Chinese were hacking websites of US defense companies and getting the required technology.

The design could be based off the supertanker which China can build. It could be done rather cheaply. Hacking websites might get you a blue print, but not the production tech that makes it work.

Why do we need to lock 2 HULL and make it move in one direction ?

If we have 2 AC we can move them in different theater and if situation calls for it can be pressed into same theater too.
