Balochistan will not remain with Pakistan: Top Baloch leader - The Times of India

ISLAMABAD: A senior Baloch nationalist leader warned that Balochistan would not "remain with" Pakistan if extra-judicial killings and excesses by security forces in the restive province were not stopped immediately.

If steps were not taken immediately to halt the extra-judicial killing of Baloch nationalists and to engage them in a dialogue, then "Balochistan will not remain with you" (Pakistan), said Sardar Ataullah Mengal, a senior leader of the Balochistan National Party.

He made the remarks while addressing a televised news conference with PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif in Karachi. Sharif said he met Mengal to discuss ways to address the grievances of the Baloch people and to strengthen democracy in the province.

In unusually blunt remarks, Mengal said the violence and killings by security forces had taken "Balochistan to the point of no return" and steps have to be taken to engage youths "who have been driven into the mountains by the army".

Criticising the powerful Pakistan Army, Mengal question why the security forces only acted in response to killings and political violence in Balochistan and not in places like Karachi and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

"I don't understand why our beloved army doesn't react to killings in those places as it does in Balochistan," he said. "This army only takes up the issues of Punjabis. This is Punjab's army and not Pakistan's army," he said.

At the same time, Mengal acknowledged that the killing of Punjabi settlers by Baloch groups was "wrong". He said he was part of Pakistan but was not accepted as a Pakistani. "I have no objection, they made the decision for me. They decided, not the people of Balochistan," he added.

Mengal also dismissed claims that a "foreign hand" was backing the violence in Balochistan.

Balochistan has been racked by violence over the past two years. Baloch national groups demanding autonomy and a greater say in the utilisation of the province's natural resources have carried out numerous attacks on security forces and infrastructure.

The bodies of over 200 Baloch activists have been found across the province since last year. Rights groups have alleged the activists were victims of extra-judicial killings by security forces. The army and intelligence agencies have denied these charges.

Former premier Nawaz Sharif said his PML-N party would fight for Balochistan and its people's rights. "We love Balochistan and it is a precious part of Pakistan," he said. Those responsible for rights violations and excesses in Balochistan should be held accountable, he said.

The way Pak army is killing it's own people Balochistan might go the Bangladesh way.Balochistan becoming a free nation is becoming more reality. The "Balochistan Issue" needs to be raised on international forums to highlight the double standards of Pak where it cries on every international forum for situation in Kashmir but simply ignores the more burning issue in it's own territory held by force.

This "Balochistan Issue" seems to be overlooked because of the other events happening in Pak but it's a very important issue to expose Pak brutality on it's own people who now want freedom from oppressive and brutal Pak army.

Custodians of Pakistan are our killers, claims Mengal

KARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif has said that he and his party will fight the case of Balochistan all over the country while former Balochistan chief minister and Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) leader claimed the "custodians of Pakistan are our killers".

"One has to move, and the government must take the lead, to pacify the situation in Balochistan," Nawaz said while talking to the media along with Sardar Attaullah Mengal here at the Mengal House on Monday.

Nawaz said his party would try to address the injustices and suppression meted out to the people of Balochistan first and then talk to the youth of the province, who were fighting for their rights. He said the murderers of Akbar Khan Bugti should be taken to task.

Nawaz said some concrete and practical steps were required to resolve the issue of Balochistan. About the possibility of martial law in the country, Nawaz said there were no chances of a martial law. "If all political parties unite, there will be no extra-constitutional measures and no martial law," he added.

Separately, addressing a press conference at a local hotel, Nawaz Sharif said the memo issue was highly sensitive and those responsible for it should be identified because it related to the autonomy, solidarity and integrity of the country and its nuclear assets. He said he had never named the culprits in the memo scandal, but it was unfortunate if any Pakistani was involved in it.

About the return of former president Pervez Musharraf, he said: "Prime Minister Gilani told me in a meeting that the court would welcome Musharraf on his return. Now it's up to Gilani to keep his word."

Sardar Attaullah Mengal claimed that Balochistan could no longer run with Pakistan since unrest and a sense of deprivation were prevailing among the students. He said: "If Nawaz Sharif had the power to check the army, he would not have been thrown to Saudi Arabia."

Mengal claimed the present situation in Balochistan had reached a point of no return and things were not in his hands now. "Now the youth have taken to the hills and they control things in Balochistan."

He said the Baloch youth did not want to have any connection with a country where they were left with the mutilated bodies of their dear ones.

Mengal said he had reached such a stage where he had no further desire to live or contract marriages. Mengal said murders were also committed in Karachi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa daily, but the army did not react to those killings as it did in Balochistan.

"Punjabis are murdered in Balochistan. Teachers, doctors and barbers are being killed for being Punjabis. One has the right to ask why such a situation developed in Balochistan."

Mengal said the army did not regard him a Pakistani. "I have no objection to this, but unfortunately the custodians of Pakistan are our killers," he added.

Earlier, on the arrival of Nawaz Sharif at the Karachi airport on a three-day visit, some people reportedly suffered injuries due to a scuffle among the PML-N workers. A large number of workers had reached the airport to receive their leader, but faced problems due to mismanagement on the part of organisers.

Solve the Pakistan problem by redrawing the map - The Globe and Mail

Admiral Michael Mullen was not wrong when he testified recently that the terrorist Haqqani network is operating as an arm of the Pakistani army. He might have added that the Taliban is the Pakistani army's expeditionary force in Afghanistan. Pakistan shelters, funds, trains, supplies and advises the Taliban. The simple fact is that Pakistan is the world's No. 1 state supporter of terrorism. :hail::thumb:
The permanent solution to the Pakistan problem is not more of this chest-beating appeasement. The answer lies in 20th-century history. In 1947, when India gained independence, a British Empire in full retreat left behind an unworkable mess on both sides of India – called Pakistan – whose elements had nothing in common except the religion of Islam. In 1971, this postcolonial Frankenstein came a step closer to rectification when Bangladesh, formerly East Pakistan, became an independent state.
The answer to the current Pakistani train wreck is to continue this natural process by recognizing Baluchistan's legitimate claim to independence. Baluchistan was an independent nation for more than 1,000 years when Great Britain notionally annexed it in the mid-19th century. The Baluchis were never consulted about becoming a part of Pakistan, and since then, they have been the victims of alternating persecution and neglect by the Pakistani state, abuse which escalated to genocide when it was discovered in the 1970s that most of the region's natural resources lie underneath their soil. Since then, tens of thousands of Baluchis have been slaughtered by the Pakistani army, which has used napalm and tanks indiscriminately against an unarmed population.:tsk:
An independent Baluchistan would, in fact, solve many of the region's most intractable problems overnight. It would create a territorial buffer between rogue states Iran and Pakistan. It would provide a transportation and pipeline corridor for Afghanistan and Central Asia to the impressive but underutilized new port at Gwadar. It would solve all of NATO's logistical problems in Afghanistan, allow us to root the Taliban out of the former province and provide greater access to Waziristan, to subdue our enemies there. And it would contain the rogue nuclear state of Pakistan and its A.Q. Khan network of nuclear proliferation-for-profit on three landward sides.
The way to put the Pakistani genie back in the bottle and cork it is to help the Baluchis go the way of the Bangladeshis in achieving their dream of freedom from tyranny, corruption and murder at the hands of the diseased Pakistani military state. :thumb:

Time for "sheep-shaggers" to let go of Baluchistan, otherwise India would have to involve to let the aspirations of Balochis become true just like Bangladeshis.
