Dear Forum Members,

Recently, there has been an increased trolling from users all round especially in Pakistan, China and Indian sub-forum.

DFI management has been lenient so far to allow members to post with enough freedom. But then some members took advantage of this and started trolling, flame-baiting and ad-hominems in many threads bringing down the quality of the posts as well as that of forum. It has become tiresome for DFI staff to regulate this activity.

From now on there will be stricter moderation of posts and no tolerance for such activity. Infractions and bans will be handed over to erring members irrespective of their seniority or number of posts.

So, I request all members to heed this request and post with more maturity and responsibility to make the forum experience more enriching for everyone.

I also suggest that, there should be strict moderation on opening of multiple threads on same topic. Multiple threads have been opened on same topics, the best example is wrt modi. If all the threads are merged, it would be helpful. I would say have one thread on elections and make it sticky. Every thread opened hence forth on elections in general or modi in particular should be closed. This would help in having a discussion in one place and more followable as well. Thanks.

All DFI threads seem to veer off topic now-a-days, all topics hijacked!!!

Thank You for this Post-of-Intent!

You guys allows dedicated threads for trolling purposes and then bemoan increased trolling on the forum. Hypocrisy.

We have allowed a few threads, and also the shoutbox for trolling.
This is to encourage people to vent out, chill, troll, post offtopic stuff elsewhere and to not pollute serious threads.
This is not hypocrisy but prudence.

Please report threads which are good candidates for merging. It'll lessen our workload :)

To all the budding 'Yo' members here who've been typing a bit loose.
Please control your language, fix the grammar and avoid using SMS breed of diatribes.
This is a defence forum to discuss serious matters of geo-politics, not the 'chaupati' for street level retorts.
You are expected to behave accordingly (without being told again and again like with kids).
Low quality posts will only lower the overall moderation thresholds.

Regards,
Virendra

Request to all participants:

Redundant Threads
Please do not open a thread if a thread already exists, unless there is a compelling need to do so. Granted, a decision in this regard is going to be a bit subjective. Please keep in mind that multiple threads tend to gravitate into the same type of debate. In such cases, it is better to keep such threads together. Experienced members are better equipped to make this judgement, as to whether a new thread is required or an existing thread will do. In other words, please use your judgment whether a new thread will lead to a discussion that is already occurring elsewhere. If anyone wants to have a narrow discussion, he should specify his intentions clearly in the opening post. This will signal us not to merge it with an existing thread.

Thread Titles
Please keep the thread titles concise, as much as practically possible. It is generally fine to use the title of a news article, however, many news articles use titles that would rather qualify as a short paragraph or a compound sentence. If you see that the thread title has been truncated, due to the limitation in the thread title field's length, and the title is rendered meaningless, please report, and we shall fix it.

Low Quality Opening Posts
Opening posts, unless a copy-paste of an article, are better written in good English. Grammatical errors, SMS language, etc., reduce the quality of the post, and may create a poor fore-taste about the thread itself. Ideally, all posts should be of high standard, however, the request is to try our best to keep at least the opening post at a high standard.

Un-original Content
It is also important to provide link(s), or give credit, if the content is copied from somewhere, so as not to be accused of plagiarism. This is required, not optional.

Requesting the attention of regular posters, such as, but not limited to, @AVERAGE INDIAN, @Poseidon, @Casper, @sorcerer, @asianobserve, @Voldemort, @nmb, @Srinivas_K, @Kshatriya87, et al..

Moderating Thread Redundancy

Members are requested to endeavour to use existing threads when posting any new comment.

Recently, several threads had been opened and they had to be merged with an already existing thread on the same topic. Please be advised that while the forum allows posts and threads critical of India, any attempt at creating an echo chamber will not be encouraged, and if deemed necessary, threads may be summarily deleted. Also, please be advised that it might not be possible to extend the courtesy of informing members about thread deletion.

Please use the following text to search for existing threads in Google:

<some_keywords> site:defenceforumindia.com

N.B.: @Neo, @Raja.pakistani, @Zarvan, @blue marlin, @Barak2

Notice:

Lately, the staff has been overwhelmed by requests to change their usernames. Please note that such requests will not be entertained and members are requested to please continue posting with whatever username they chose when signing up at the forum.

Thank you for your understanding.

Enough lip service / discussion to my mind has already been done. Now, there will be action and only action, before the problem develops other ramifications ..
