In Iowa, Boehner nostalgic for Bush

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), stumping here for a GOP House candidate Sunday, suggested President Obama's weak foreign policy had provided an opening for Russia to invade Crimea and Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) "barbarians" to retake parts of Iraq.

"Do you think anybody here believes that Vladimir Putin would have marched into Ukraine, into Crimea had George W. Bush been president of the United States? No!" Boehner told dozens of supporters at a rally for 3rd district House candidate David Young.

Putin "was book smart enough to know that President Bush would have punched him in the nose in about 10 seconds," Boehner continued. "Listen, the world wants us to lead, and the world wants us to be strong, and when we're not leading and we're not strong, all the goofballs around the world think they've got an opportunity to go out there and poach."

The Speaker has previously said he'd be happy to have the House vote on military authorization to fight ISIS. At the Sunday rally, Boehner declared, "This issue's going to be revisited — you can count on it." He did not get into specifics, however.

Boehner's visit to this conservative Des Moines suburb marked the first of three campaign stops for GOP candidates in tight House races. He heads to Cedar Rapids and the Quad Cities regions Monday. The Speaker was joined Sunday in Urbandale by his longtime friend, Rep. Tom Latham (R-Iowa); both Young and former Democratic state Sen. Staci Appel are vying to replace the retiring congressman.

Boehner called Young, Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley's former chief of staff, "the real thing" and a "solid guy" who knows how the process works in Washington. Latham agreed.

"Being in Congress is a lot of responsibility; David gets it," Latham told supporters, with Young and Boehner on stage. "He'll be able to do the job on the first day and understands it is about representing the people of Iowa, taking our values to Washington, not having Washington values dumped on us here."

The manner in which the US is losing its hold over events in the international arena, makes one wonder if the US is losing its touch.

To be fair to Obama, Bush started the decline, where having taken Iraq and Afghanistan, its military prowess was up for the grabs since they could not combat the rag tag 'towel-heads' as they called and all the brouhaha of US military prowess went down the drain and even encouraged ridicule.

Now, the US is appearing to be a 'strawman' or a 'Paper Tiger' to use the Chinese depiction of the US.

Bush was no big deal. He was a swashbuckling Texas cowboy in shining spurs and in actuality an armchair valiant soldier, who escaped Vietnam thanks to Daddy O but wanted to show he is Sir Galahad in the safe confines of Mainland US.

So, could he have stopped Putin in his tracks over Ukraine? Putin the Alpha Dog. That remain a moot point, but then that is what dreams are made of.

ISIS can be combated by the US? Think again.

Having unleashed the Frankenstein, trying to be Liberty Vallance?

Whoa, take 'er easy there, Pilgrim.

Don't think Osama or Saddam ridiculed US military prowess. Or, if they did, they were forced to stop that ridicule (in Osama's case very, very) rapidly.

A Republican politician thinks Bush was better than Obama :-/ that's a surprise isn't...
