Aero was invited by Embraer to fly on the Legacy 500, the most technological aircraft developed from scratch by the company in Brazil and by Brazilians. Fernando De Borthole followed the flight in the plane's cockpit, where he chatted with the pilots and got to know the inside of this aircraft, which is the fastest in the midsize jet category.
1716849084921.png

It was supposed to be a short flight, from São José dos Campos to Congonhas, in São Paulo. But to better demonstrate the flight, we went to an Embraer test area and climbed to flight level FL450, an altitude where it is possible to perceive the curvature of the earth. This was certainly one of the most incredible flights we've ever taken at Aero!

Unmanned Systems Technology International designs and develops unmanned aerial vehicles. Product includes MX1- a fixed-wing UAV with an endurance of upto 7 hours. Applications are in the areas of oil, agriculture, electric, railway, scientific research and telecommunication. Also provides customized UAV solutions for clients. The company claims to be the only Mexican company that has received a certificate from the US Department for the import and use of aerospace grade carbon fibre.

On March 19, with much fanfare, Jaime Rodríguez, the governor of the State of Nuevo León, announced the delivery of an Unmanned Aircraft with cutting-edge technology to combat crime to the Civil Force State Police.

The cost: 54 million pesos (or well-invested taxes, according to the governor himself).

The technical characteristics: impossible to give, since they are a security issue, according to the state Secretary of Public Security.

The justification of the cost: “…it is intelligence and intelligence costs a lot…they are very expensive, they are specially manufactured and are not made in Mexico,” specified Aldo Fasci.

However, and despite the opacity of the officials, the information about this 'drone' is not as secret as it may seem, since EstadoMayor.mx carried out a very complete report on the unmanned aircraft, which was presented during FAMEX in the now distant 2017.

So, for the pleasure of our readers, here we answer the questions that the 'Bronco' and his Secretary of Public Security have refused to answer:

About its cost: The government of Nuevo León reports a cost of 54 million pesos. Unmanned Systems Technology International (the company responsible for the creation and manufacturing of the 'drone') indicated at the time that the price per aircraft was around $2 million.

Regarding its origin: The Secretary of Public Security of Nuevo León was very emphatic when saying that this technology was not available in Mexico. Unmanned Systems Technology International (USTI) is a 100% Mexican company and the UAV-MX1 is a drone whose concept, design, prototyping, production and flight testing are also 100% Mexican, ergo, the technology IS available in our country .

Regarding its technical characteristics: They are not a matter of security and are quite public, in fact USTI gave EstadoMayor.mx a brochure in which all the components of the UAV-MX1 were broken down, as listed below:

Engine: 150cc
Autonomy: Up to 7 hours.
Cruise speed: 110 km/h or 59 kt
Radio communication: From 15 to 100 km
Navigation: Autonomous and Remote Pilot.
Video radio link: In real time.
Communication: Redundant.
Fuel: Premium Gasoline
Optional communications relay.
Dimensions: 6m x 3m with a weight of between 80 and 90 kg
Control system: Two-way communication system, capable of transmitting information on the ground to different locations and making route changes in mid-flight.
Manufacturing: Highest quality components available on the market. Certified under Nadcap AS9100.
Telemetry: Advanced monitoring system for all vehicle sensors to ensure their correct functioning and timely detection of faults.
If for some reason you were unable to watch the report published two years ago and want to know more about this 'drone', we leave you the video and the interview with its creators.

HISTORY Operating in the production and distribution of aircraft and training courses for helicopter pilots, Scoda Aeronáutica is a reference in aviation in Brazil. Founded in 1997 by eng. aeronautical mechanic and pilot Rodrigo Scoda, the company is led by a qualified work team made up of engineers, mechanics, pilots and administrators. All focused on ensuring the highest standard of quality and safety in our services. Providing training for Private Helicopter Pilot or Commercial Helicopter Pilot, the Scoda Aeronáutica Instruction Center is a reference among helicopter piloting schools in Brazil. Combining theory with the best flight instructors, and practical training in its fleet of 10 Schweizer S-300 at its own aerodrome, Scoda Aeronáutica has market recognition for placing its pilots in the best and most coveted jobs in the country. Learn to fly a helicopter from the best. Come to Scoda Aeronáutica.
SUPER PETREL LSA biplane, sesquiplane, staggerwing configuration, in addition to being strong and charming, provides the Super Petrel LS amphibious with highly positive flight characteristics, such as: smooth stall, excellent stability and comfort in turbulent atmospheres, firm and brief takeoff without the need for flaps and, above all, an unparalleled landing behavior. This configuration allows you to dive into the final stretch without losing speed, stabilize on the runway by placing the seaplane in the landing attitude and wait for it to sink for a smooth and precise touchdown. And to help, the small lateral area of the rear fuselage means that crosswinds have very little influence on the ultralight's landing. The Super Petrel LS is firm and precise at low speeds. This behavior is highly desired and appreciated during landings and even more so during landings (landing in water). Landing this light sports amphibian is an easy, safe and very pleasant operation. With a design that combines beauty, sportiness, robustness and elegance, the biplane is an invitation to discover new regions, new terrains and new landscapes. With plenty of energy to surprise even the most experienced pilots.Amphibious, seaplane, ultralight, biplane, light sports amphibious or simply Super Petrel LS. You can choose the name of the machine at will, but the experience it provides, whether on land or water tracks, usually has just one name: spectacular.

Located in São João da Boa Vista (SP), Octans Aircraft was founded in 2002. The company's specialty was the production of experimental aircraft, a field in which it operated until 2016. While in this category, the manufacturer delivered 240 aircraft.

In 2015, the manufacturer decided to suspend production of experimental aircraft and directed all efforts to developing its new product, the single-engine Cygnus for up to five occupants. The first prototype flew in January 2020, and the testing and certification campaign should be completed by the end of this year, freeing Octans to deliver the first devices to customers.

The P600 is based on the fuselage of the Embraer Praetor 600 super-medium business jet, equipped with a state-of-the-art, low-weight, high-efficiency digital Elta AESA radar in a dorsal radome. The aircraft will also incorporate civil and military IFF, ESM, ELINT and COMINT systems and an advanced and robust self-protection suite. The P600 will be equipped with a comprehensive communications suite, including data networks and satellite links for Beyond Line Of Sight (BLOS) operation.

Both partners bring considerable previous AEW experience to the development of the P600 AEW. IAI/Elta is a world leader in commercial jet-based special mission aircraft, as well as a leading supplier of airborne radars. The company's portfolio includes the development of the Gulfstream-based Eitam CAEW E-550A platform, with two aircraft for Israel, four for Singapore and two for Italy, all equipped with EL/W-2085 radar).

Embraer developed the EMB-145RS, or E-99, for the Brazilian Air Force, combining Saab's Erieye AEW radar with the ERJ-145 airframe. Similar aircraft were exported to Mexico (one EMB-145AEW&C) and Greece (five Erieye EMB-145H AEW&C). Embraer also supplied three modified EMB 145i airframes for India's Netra AEW program

The EMB-145AEW&C, designated as R-99A by the FAB, is equipped with an ERICSSON PS-890 ERIEYE active electronically scanned Doppler radar, (operating in the S band), instead of traditional mechanical scanning (like the rotating radars installed on aircraft such as the Boeing E-3 Sentry); As a result, the radar is smaller and also allows permanent tracking of a target, unlike rotating radars. ERIEYE is installed on a flat antenna, on the fuselage, and allows permanent 360° scanning (although it is more efficient in two lateral sectors of 150°), in a figure of 8 around the aircraft. The typical detection range of an aircraft the size of a fighter is more than 350km. ERIEYE has a secondary integrated aircraft detection and identification (IFF) capability. Electronic support measures (ESM) devices, command and control systems, data processing, color LCD screens, communications and digital data transmission (“datalink”) are also installed on the aircraft. The ERIEYE system uses an open architecture, with electronic and digital components available on the market, which facilitates its maintenance.

While living in exile in Argentina, Dr.R.Horten joined the FMA (Fabrica Militar de Aviones) where he devoted himself to bring forth many interesting projects from the war-time period. One of the most interesting was the IAe-38 "Naranjero" which was developed from the Ho.VIII flying wing bomber with 80 meter wing span. Actually the IAe-38 was a scaled down Ho.VIII suited for transport role. Only one aircraft was built in 1959 and flown successfully for a few times. The aircraft was powered with four (insufficient) I.Ae.16 El Gaucho piston engines. The wing span was 32 meters

IAE 38 naranjero
The brothers Walter and Reimar Horten - who in the times of Nazi Germany designed gliders and flying-wing airplanes - arrived in Argentina in 1948 and began working on advanced projects for the government of Juan Domingo Perón. At first they advise Kurt Tank on the Pulqui II project but there is jealousy among the aeronautical engineers and Tank manages to radiate them from his work. While Walter Horten returns to Germany, his brother Reimar will propose several futuristic designs: the IAE 37 subsonic fighter, the IAE 48 supersonic fighter... and will end up accepting the government's commission to build a cargo plane to transport the orange harvest from the west. of the country to Buenos Aires... which will end up becoming the IAE 38 "Naranjero", a propeller transport plane with a flying wing design.
Discover the epic of this German engineer in our country - author of the legendary Horten Ho 229, the first jet bomber with a flying wing configuration in history, which will inspire the YB-35, YB-49 and the futuristic Northtrop B- 2 Spirit - in our video.
