Not the first. Magic 2's were also equipped over the Wing of the Jaguar in the old days. Some might remember seeing them in the visuals from Kargil in 1999.
Do point it out (on twitter) to the author of that article....

Looks like at least some if not all the features mentioned in the article above in the HAL proposed post DARIN - III , Jaguar MAX upgrades are sought to fitted on to the Jaguars.

Hope the implications of this move are understood. It means the IAF is preparing for a delayed AMCA & perhaps a curtailed requirement for the Rafales assuming the MRFA tender is going to happen , since the initial program was to start withdrawing the Jaguars from active service this year onwards in a phased manner with the last of them being phased out by the mid 2030s.

The Jaguars aren't going anywhere before the Mk2 Tejas matures.
Only 60 of the 120 odd Jaguars in service are due to undergo the DARIN III upgrade . The rest would be phased out in batches beginning 2028 instead of 2025 as originally envisaged.

BTW that's precisely the reason MoD / GoI is signing an order for a second tranche of Mk-1a in anticipation of a delay in the Mk-2 making its debut in the IAF in significant numbers by 2035 by which time we'd have inducted 190 nos Mk-1a.

Had we worked on HTFE 30 with afterburner, we could have used it for one more decade.
The Jaguars are frankly passed their shelf life . Instead of expending more finances on upgrading & then maintaining it , it makes more sense instead to procure additional Rafales.

But like God , our MoD works in mysterious ways .

May be your opinion but IAF was very much interested in using Jaguar for one more decade by installing new engine and Darin III upgrades but engines offered were very costly which made it upgrades commercially unviable.
